Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

What is MJs email? I have some single coil stuff I want to have made for me, to my own specs. :)

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

Dimarzio holds a patent on the double cream bobbin. I don't know if that only applies to production models, maybe you could get a custom pickup in double cream.

I'd pay extra to not have a logo. Or at least a much smaller one.

Ahhh...the uniformed.

There are ways to order double cream (production or Custom shop models). Order one with a cover and all is good. When you get the pickup, take off the cover. And about the logo, a little brasso and a rag and the logo comes right off. Looks like it was never there.

I would love an A2 Brobucker set for the Yamaha it looks like I will be hanging onto :smokin: Would I be able to get covered neck and zebra bridge? And I would want curly fries instead of straight with that - and a king-sized Coke, please... :laugh2:

I had one in my Strat for a while and now find myself comparing everything to that "Bro" sound...

im down too! sounds like a GREAT pickup. did it originally come with an A2 or A5 mag and was it available in plain black no logo? if so, im DEFINATELY down!

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

I'll say this now. There will not be another special run anytime soon. If you want one, call the Custom Shop, speak to MJ, tell her what you want and she'll make it. Trust me when I say it is worth the price. Just do it.

I am with Erik, If you want one then save up for a few weeks. It is worth it!

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

I never got around to putting mine in a guitar even though I was one of the folks who clamored for it.

After evaluating several other pickups and guitars and hearing the Brobucker in Eriks Paula and strat, and narrowing down exactly what it was I was going for in a bridge pup, I just didn't think it was gonna work for me..at least in my #1 axe. Nor would any other PAF type pup. So I sold it here to one of the forum bros, tho I cannot remember who :smack:

A year later, with a few more guitars and several pups "under my belt", I *know* it would not have worked for me.

That said, when I get around to having a dedicated PAF type sound guitar...I'm ordering another or having MJ rewind the C5 I have laying around here to brobucker specs :bigthumb:

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

Spend the $160. It's not overkill. In fact, it's damn well worth it. I wasn't able to get one with the special run and price so I knew if I wanted one it would be at full CS price. Well, my wife beat me to it. She contacted MJ and bought me one. Tell ya what, if I could right now, I'd drop $160 down for another one in a heartbeat. It's by far the best pickup I have in any of my guitars right now.

I wish I could play one. If its this good to my ear, Id spend $160 too. I just hate to drop $160 for something I may not like..
What is it good for?? I mean, I like the C5 cuz it does it all. Does the brobucker work for metal? blues?
I mean, Im very intrigued by a pup that many of you whom I trust proclaim it to be all that
Thanks

The axe I have it in is the most versitile I have. In the neck in an APS-1. With the flip of a switch I go from SRV to EVH. :) The mellow tones from it are great. Compared to a C5, it's more balanced. There are more mids, the highs are rolled off some but it still has the lows. The degaussed A5 really helps in that area because it puts the best qualities of the A5 and A2 together.

Whenever I see/hear some say they can't see spending $160 for a pickup, I ask them how much they've spent on pickups for that same guitar. Here's how I look at it. On average, a player may swap out the bridge pickup on any given guitar at least 2 to 3 times once they enter the aftermarket pickup arena. This is average now, not what some us here do. :D Take the money spent on those 2 or 3 and there's your Custom Shop pickup. Replacing 2 at a time 2 or 3 times? Heck, there's your Custom Shop set.

I know, I've gone through it, only double those changes on my Strat. I eventually spilled the beans for the Texas Specials I've wanted for a long time. My Brobucker is in my Frankenstrat and is staying put. That guitar went through a few pickups too. The Custom Custom and Brobucker are best in that guitar. Once I can spring for another CS pickup, the '78 may be the next one. Not sure what guitar it will go in though...LOL.

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

It costs almost $160 (approx £80) to get a production SD pickup in the UK, so to pay that for a CS model seems like a no-brainer to me!

Re: Request for SD to make Brobucker available again

I'm sure they won't so another run any time soon, if ever, but I'd be there on day one. Since I'm new to the family here, I think it'd be cool. Double cream with a logo would be perfect for my new Gibby.

True Bro! I too am guilty of this. HOWEVER, my new thing is buying a custom and tuning it with the right magnet. hee hee works most of the time.. But yeah, I get the drift.. And as I said, I wouldnt mind paying $160 if it gives me that special something.. Just hard to without hearing it first.. BUT, your description nearly sells me.. I like a C4 because it takes the C5 and rolls down the highs just alittle. So, sounds like something I would like.. For example, I dont care for pearly gates much cuz of that high end sizzle.
Is the brobucker middy as a CC?? Last question, how hot is it? Compared to say a C5 or 59?
Thanks alot Erik! As always.

I'm sure you could sell it very quickly for almost all of the money you paid for it in the trading post.
