Requiem by Gabriel Fauré

Hello,

it's been a while since I last posted here. I've been spending a lot of time with my girlfriend, my job and my studies lately. As for music, I've been a member of a nice nonprofessional choir called Erkel Ferenc Mixed Choir for more than a year now. Ferenc Erkel was the composer of the Hungarian national anthem in 1844 BTW.

We recently got together with a similar choir (Psalterium Hungaricum) and sang Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, conducted by János Pál Fasang. He also asked some friends to form an orchestra and play at the concert. Solists: Szilvia Hamvasi (soprano) and Sebastian Klein (baritone).

It took us some time to get used to the style of the conductor but I think it was worth the time and effort.

1. Introit et Kyrie

2. Offertoire

3. Sanctus

4. Pie Jesu

5. Agnus Dei

6. Libera Me

7. In Paradisum

It's hard to describe what it felt like to be part of such monumental music. What's more, I stood right next to the solists... just listen to Pie Jesu... :) Fauré composed the mass between 1887 and 1890 so there are a lot of fresh and inventive harmonies, atmospheres and even some surprises in the music. I especially like 'Eternal light' in Agnus Dei and 'Dies Irae' in Libera Me. You can't miss those two. ;)

I hope you'll enjoy listening to the clips.

Hi Peter, so very good to see you around again:)
That is heavenly music as far as I am concerned...used to sing in a choir in highschool...just for the feel of it....still makes me excited to this day.
My true love will always be classical stuff, and that kind of choir stuff....never fails to make me see the beauty of life for a few moments!
I am back to listening to this!
Thanks!
Niels
