Re: 'Rescue Me' by Y&T - Which pups?
Dave plays a beat up Gibson Les Paul that is pretty famous to Y & T fans and I believe that was the guitar he used on the album. If it wasn't the guitar on the album, I have seen him play that song live with that guitar a lot and he nails the tone. That gibson started life as a late 60's P-90 Goldtop. But when he bought it, in the early 70's I believe, it had been painted sunburst and routed for humbuckers. As far as I know they were Gibson humbuckers in that guitar and he still uses it today. If your looking at Duncan pickups I believe a neck 59 will nail that tone. His tone seems to be more of an A-5 magnet PAF type tone in the neck.
Dave has a webiste that is worth a visit. They actually have an ask Dave section so you could ask the man himself. As we speak, he is having a replica Les Paul built by a luthier friend of his. He mentioned on his site that he is putting a Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge but hasn't decided on the the neck pup yet. I think a Custom 5 bridge and 59 neck in a Les Paul or similar guitar would nail the Y & T tone, and be real versatile for other types of music as well.
PS- Dave also has a Kramer Baretta and has played that live and in the studio for many years. He uses that on songs where he wants a little more sizzle. That guitar has a Duncan Custom in it and is a single pup guitar
