just ordered a set of the Texas Hot Antiquities for my 54RI. Also upgrading the guts to CTS super pots and the Hovland cap. more to follow

Re: respect my antiquities!!!!!

hey KJ....do you have the same strat that i do? mine is number 1161 of 1954. Do you have the original tuners on the guitar? Also, what kinds of strings have you found work best. I think that I am going to have to go with .010's because i want to do some old Bad Company tunes and that requires open C tuning for some of them.
The thinking behind the CTS/Hovland combo is that the electronic will introduce as littl colorto the sound as possible. Just Duncans, wood and my clubby fingers:laugh2: I'm a high end stereo geek, so I am very familar with Hovland.

Just recently joined the Antiquity club myself. :) Cool tone.

btw - What's a "super pot"?

Re: respect my antiquities!!!!!

basically the ones that test out the best, i think. the hook them up and the ones that are closest to perfect spec are put aside. kinda like the target ammunition that the Marine Corps rifle team shoots with

Re: respect my antiquities!!!!!

Hey Artie......did the antiquity make a lot of difference on your tele? I have a real nice Mexican tele from the early 90's that i got from my little brother, but i have been hesitant to upgrade because its kinda inexpensive and since the strings don't come through the body, i haven't been able to find a high grade bridge that will work......i think:laugh2:

It made a helluva difference . . . but let me qualify that. It was a Squier SH Tele to begin with. It's pups were awful.

I did, however, try a JD first. It was outstanding also. At first I thought I liked the JD better, but that was because I made the mistake of not readjusting my eq settings. I don't see how you could wrong with either pup. The Antiquity is one of the first pups I've heard that a lot of high-end without it being harsh. Its like its "buffered" with rich harmonics. Not sure how else to explain it. Your first impression is that its too bright, then you realize, thats upper harmonics that you hadn't heard before.

Its hard to describe. You gotta hear it. ;)

Re: respect my antiquities!!!!!

It gets worse......when i get over the fear of handling my new R9, it is going to get the custom shop Peter Green pups with the reversed magnet in the bridge:fingersx: The guys at SD said they are kind of a cross betwwen the Seth and the Antiquities. I would guess that means Antiquity grade parts and work, but with a bit less "aging". I can't wait to hear that funky out of phase sound....way too cool for my skill level:chairfall

Give Snake Oil Strings a try. In my experience (and that of a bunch of others) they last an exceptionally long time. I've got a set that's going on a year old, and no problems with tone or decay. They are pure nickle, but different from any other pure nickle strings on the market. Incredible warm and smooth tones from the Vintage sets.

So Curly......how are you, as a hardcore DIY Fender guy, likin that R7? I had a REALLY good one from early on in the production but had to sell it in 99 after my divorce.......BIOTCH!!!!:yell: I'm loving my R9......another gift from the Good Wood People:laugh2:

No ,yours is a reissue where as mine is a commemorative issue. Its just an American Standard with a couple "40th Ann." markings. I love it none the less and the Antiquities have made me love it more now.
BTW I use 10"s too.

Re: respect my antiquities!!!!!

Are you still using the American Standard saddles or did you switch to the vintage style bridge? Mine arrived with 5 springs and no whammy bar, so the previous owner was essentially playing it as a pseudo hardtail. That shall be remedied quickly:fingersx: The beast is pretty light and just rings when you strum it. Nice wood.

well, it's not like I never played LPs :)

my R7 is sweet, I just need to play it more, and maybe put my Seths in it ... I did play a nice R8 the other day, too, but it sold a couple days later

enjoy those Antiquities!
