masking tape sounds wonderful
and so does my new eminence red white & blues. It's marketed as an 'american sounding vintage 30', but i don't have much expirience with v30's, as i tend to not like british tones
well lets see, my amp won't be repaired till this weekend, so i took it over to my friends house, who told me he'd break it in for me, and plugged it into his MG100. Now, i know this is a bad amp, but that has nothing to do with the speaker.
Anyhoo, it's a 1x12 partial open back cab, the head looked ridiculous sitting ontop of it, however, the tone, oooh the tone. The celestion site said to break in speakers with full bass & mids, and half treble, so we set it to that, played it for awhile at low volumes, gradually turned up, kicked on the distortion, and oh lord, this thing sounds BIG. The sound coming out of this thing was not what most people picture when they think of a 1x12 cab. Not only did it have MORE bass than his closed back mg cab, and i mean a lot more bass, but it also has some nice top end to it, notes on the b & e string had some good presence. Given i like them to be A LITTLE quieter than the low notes, cuz i mainly just use higher strings for fills. Continuing on, kicked off the OD, cleaned up nice & pretty. I'd say its definately a darker sound than other speakers meant to be cleaner, but thats why i got this one in a cab & kept my legend 125 in the amp. I would reccomend this speaker for anyone who wants to turn their combo amp into 'the rock', or anyone else who wants a lot of bass & low mids without sacrifiving a great deal of highs.
I'm so excited, can't wait to gig with this thing, I'll be crushing all the solid state halfstacks with a little 1x12.
