Richard is world class...

Spot on. Real talent gets shoved to the back and the PTB push what THEY like on the masses. It's sad but it is what it is. Has always been that way to some extent and in some ways it's a little better today. At lease with the internet you can find unique folk like this guy if you look before you could NOT!

Yes, but the more unique you are, the harder it is to make a living as an artist.

Some truth to this. Example is my old friend Wayne Perkins being hired to do the guitar tracks on Bob Marleys Catch the Fire album. Blackwell the producer knew it was to different to ever catch on like it was so he hired Wayne to do the guitar tracks and "commercialize " the album. Story is here.

I wish the world accepted talent as all you need to make it big. Unfortunately, many times it is the other stuff, like who you know, generational wealth, right place/time, etc.

Talent and effort.

This is unfortunately the case everywhere in life; including and especially the corporate work environment.

But so many want to take the easy, lazy, douchebaggery way.

Effort > Networking > Talent in the majority of cases... because we are talking commercial industries.

When money is on the line, people who can deliver as promised is the most valued parameter over a dreamer with incredible ideas or talent in a basement somewhere.

All the effort in the world won't help if you don't have resources or don't know anyone who can help. I know plenty of guitarists who never had to support themselves, and who had parents invest in their career at a young age. It is easy to go on tour at 22 if you don't have to worry about paying expenses of any kind. You don't have to be especially talented, either. But you have to know someone with the right connections to set that up.

Yep, This is why I have networking over talent in my value summation.

Think most famous people owe their success in a meaningful way to having a record company exec walk by the corner where they are busking, or a casting director seeing them at a mall shopping with their families, or someone with a big name hearing their demo because the admin liked it and put it on the top of the pile?

The industry has perpetuated those myths for years.

There are a lot of roads to the promised land. Some of them can only be taken by the most skilled and amazing individuals. Some paths require a lot of effort, but anyone could put in the time and make the journey. Others only require a whore willing to pay the price with their soul.

At the end of the day, what matters is that you got there, and people are glad to see you. Of course, tastes are fickle. Getting there is only the first p[art. Staying is another.

Now explain KISS.

KISS set out to put on the greatest rock show ever made. They worked hard, and did it. They wrote catchy, accessible hard rock songs, that rate about a 6, and put a show that was 15 behind them.

Nothing surprising there.
