Rip-off or decent deal?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280530458187

Part of me thinks that at $240 now, it would allow me to buy the parts as I have the money instead of all at once, and if I were to buy a new Epi LP I'd just have to change out the electrics anyways, not to mention this way I could put in a better bridge instead of replacing that, as well. Plus, I like guitars with a little wear and tear, shows personality.

But then part of me think that this thing looks beat all to p*ss and priced pretty for the condition it's in, plus if I did buy a new Epi LP, at least I'd have the old pups to sell to recoup a little bit. Seems to me with tuners, bridge, and pickups it'd cost as much as a brand new one in the first place.

Any thoughts?

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

I don't think I'd go for it at that price unless you already had a cache of spare parts laying around. Even then, I think it's a bit steep.

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

That thing was rode hard... If I were wanting to make a throw-away guitar that I didn't care about and had a ton a extra parts to build it, sure...

But that's not the case...

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

Play before you buy with those guitars. By the time you sink money into it for electronics and hardware you'll have spent much more than you probably ever should have.

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

I have parts galore in my boxes and I'd STILL not buy it. I bought my Epi LP in pretty good condition fully assembled for $230 locally. If you can knock off about $100-120, then I'd jump on it.

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

take this advice from someone who once thought that epiphone MUST make the best LP copies for the price, because they're owned by Gibson:

Buy an Agile

edit: not trying to say epiphone sucks, but agile gives you the same thing (or slightly) better for less money. You may like to change out the pickups, but it's not mandatory OOTB like it is on the Epi Std. The pots, switch, and jack are fine. Frets and nut seem to be better. Wood seems to be better in agiles too.

$250 can get you a brand new agile al-2500 with a flame maple veneer, just like the $550-600 epi "plus top" models.

You can get a used Epi LP Std in very good condition for $250 to $275, with all it's parts; why bother with that beater?

If you want to spend $400+, get an Agile AL-3100.

got mine used for 300 ^_^. As good as ANY Epi Plus Top I've played. the ebony fretboard makes a big difference for me. Epi plus tops are cool (they're the only guys doin the "trans amber" finish which I LOVE), but agiles have their own thing goin on for real.

It'll be worth it to save your $$$ in either case. 250 is a waste on a dinged up, worn out guitar which sadly, should probably be scrapped.

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

Pretty much everyone is saying all the things I was thinking. If it was $100 less I'd be more about it. I have a Gibson tune-o-matic bridge and stop piece, but the rest would be another $1-200 to do it right, so yeah... not at all worth it.

Thanks for all the responses, pretty much told me what I already knew, just needed to hear it from somebody besides me.

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

yeah, absolutely. I do love this place because I myself have been both talked into good things and talked out of bad things.

Now we just need to find whoever else is watching that auction and then let them know that that thing's kinda a rip.

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

I'll say this once.

Used Epiphone Les Pauls can be had for $250 with a hard case in EXELLENT condition by surfing CL, Pawnshops, Mom&Pop shops, Classifieds etc. within a week and an hours drive

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

If you are interested in a Epi LP Std neck & body, Someone is selling a MUCH better condition one on the trading post for only $150. Take a look! I though about buying it myself but I don't have the $$$ right now. Lol

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

that's a baaaad deal. there was a used epi les paul at GC for $250 the other day, and it was in good condition with all of it's hardware and electronics. total rip man:no:

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

What I want to know is why is that guitar all wrinkly like it's coated with partly molten plastic?

Re: Rip-off or decent deal?

You all think its a rip-off, aren't you? But lot of guys here pimp up their Epis and throw away the old parts. Then you need 150 bucks for pups, hardware, decent tuners and so on.
So, were is difference??
