Roasted maple necks?

Anyone being tempted by these fairly new "Roasted Maple" guitar necks? I'm considering one of Warmoth's in-stocks for my custom Strat build; just as stable as quartersawn maple, and they'll warranty these necks without a finish applied, so all in all they're about $120 cheaper in the configuration I want (Strat Vintage/Modern). The look isn't bad either.

I'm looking at one for a bass I've got. Either that or bloodwood because that also doesn't require a finish.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

I have a Warmoth Roasted Maple neck on a Warmoth Alder body and that neck feels and plays great. I will probably continue buying Roasted Maple over a non-finished or finished Maple neck from now on. I also have a Warmoth Black Korina tele body capped with Bloodwood with a Warmoth Bloodwood neck. Probably the best sounding Tele I own.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

They seem to be really nice.....they are much more stable and hard, plus there is no finish required for them. The other upside is that they look like old maple right from the outset....meaning you don't have to try and make them look aged/ambered.
This is a strat neck I'm building......the only downside so far has been the tendency toward tearout due to the more brittle nature of the wood.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

Did my most recent warmoth build with roasted maple and a macassar ebony fb... probably won't ever want to go back to regular finished maple where I can help it! It's a mahogany body too and the roasted maple really brings the snap and presence to life to balance out the mahogany middy thick tone.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

I put one on my Strat last year. I will most likely never go with a neck that requires a finish again. It plays great and sounds much like any other maple neck, perhaps a fraction snappier.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

Thanks, it does look good with the black. The pickguard is cream. Sometimes these electronics don't show things the way they are. Here's a photo that might show it better. This was before I re-arranged the controls and flipped the output jack.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

Tasty!
My LH Strat has a Mint Green p/g w/Creme trim.
Got a build in teh works(Blk/Mpl Strat),gonna have to use a White p/g(ugh) until I can get one from Warmoth or something.
Looks great,tho,nice job!
:D

Re: Roasted maple necks?

Thanks, mint green was an alternative option. Warmoth makes a good pickguard. The screw holes were so close I only needed to use a couple toothpicks to adjust them. Looking forward to seeing your next build.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

What do you have for pups in that? The neck looks to be some sort of dual rail. Just curious. Not a typical set up.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

The neck is a Bill Lawrence L-500R and the bridge is a DiMarzio 26th Anniv PAF (neck). The PAF gives it some twang and the L-500 balances it out. It's good for country.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

Put one with rosewood board on alder start. Love it! I'll be using it for my next tele or strat build.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

I put one on my tele build. I put some oil on it too. It just keeps getting better. Love it.

Re: Roasted maple necks?

Can I ask why you oiled it? Not that I disagree with that, but what do you like better about the oiled finish vs the way it came?

I'm not the person you asked but I very lightly oiled mine–felt incredible without a finish but felt perfect with just a light touch of oil on it :)
