Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Awesome! I'd say that's one of your best sounding clips yet. :) I love the backing guitar, it sounds so HUGE!!!

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Sounds fckin' great man! The only comment would be some of the bends are a bit off pitch in the last solo, but they're spot on everywhere on the overdubs so I'm guessing the it was improvised? I've never heard the original lol. The attitude and tone is there in spades :headbang:

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

the tone was so sweet in that Stevo...seriously man...that was some ROCK!!!

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Thanks guys. Nuntius, the little solo was a very quick improv.. it's definitely a bit weak. This song was originally done by Rick Darringer, who was an amazing guitar player in the 70s. When I was a kid, I saw him with Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter.. what a show.. freakin great guitar concert :32:

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Great version!! The original is on my short list of greatest rock tunes of all time. Never did like Rick's guitar tones on the original, sounded thin. I much prefer your tones. Shame those young guys haven't heard classics like this. Good job educating them! :)

I agree.. but he sure did rip out the chops :saeek:

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

I love the ultra-falsetto of the origial.

RAWK AND ROLLLLEEE HOOCHEY KKOOOOOOO!

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

UMMM ! Nice and crunchy just the way I like it :D And the solo had a great
feel to it. Now I always get confused w/t this song? there are 2 versions
right? Ricks and Johnny's ? Johnny's being a lil' faster. Can some one
enlighten me?

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Yes they both had a version. I saw them play it together.. darn good show.. I think my ears were ringing for days.

Saw Johnny Winter play in a small club. My ears HURT half way through the show, when I got home sounded like I was at Niagra Falls. Was SO loud you couldn't even tell what song he was playing. Oh the old stupid days.

Yikes! The Climax Blues Band opened for him, Edgar and Rick at the concert I went to. The lead guitar player from that band did a long, loud slide solo that had my ears thrashed before Johnny even came on :32:

The Edgar Winter Band was also excellent. I always thought they were just OK, but they were super tight with their live show.

Couldn't tell you about the Climax Blues Band, but the Edgar Winter Group was ALWAYS an amazing band. I cut my teeth on Ronnie Montrose, and they had Derringer working with them in '74 for "Shock Treatment".

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

thats tone!!! great playing, I love that groove.

My dad told me about a time he went to see the Edgar Winter Group and after a couple songs rick derringer came out, then Johnny, all completely spontaneous! haha

They were great together. Did your Dad tell you anything else about concerts in those days? :saeek:

Dan Hartman (Edgar Winter Band) was playing a dual neck bass/6-string guitar on that song Free Ride, and he bent down to grab a joint (doobie, doober, fattie, whatever :D ) from the front row, took a big hit and passed it back.. that was pretty common in those days.

I was at a Thin Lizzy concert once, and remember the security guards commenting that they were stoned from 2nd hand smoke :32:

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Great stuff! :approve:

I love that song. I only have Johnny's version, don't think I've heard Rick's.

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Great rendition and tone Stevo. Man, your recordings are always awesome... I'd really should be leaning to produce recordings like this.

Re: Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo Cover

Ahhh I love that tune. Ain't nothing better than groove rock. A loving tribute indeed.
