Roland SRV-2000 secret

Gearjoneser

Gear Ho
One popular piece of rack gear from the 80's was the SRV-2000 digital reverb.....a state of the art studio reverb that stood the test of time.

I was reading some info on it today and discovered this...

This baby was used by Slash on Welcome to the Jungle, according to legend. There's also a little known secret delay mode that turns these into an SDE-3000 clone. Just hold down "write," "rev non lin," and "room simulate" buttons simultaneously while powering on the unit. Read this online. Do your own research.
:eyecrazy:

I had no idea I could take my old Roland SRV-2000 and turn it into a Roland SDE-3000 Delay unit!!! I c
an't wait to retrieve it from my storage unit, download the manuals for the SRV and SDE and see what my old reverb is capable of.
:scratchch

How many of you own one, owned one, or knew about this?

If you find one really cheap, grab it! For less than $100, you'll have a great studio reverb and delay.

Re: Roland SRV-2000 secret

That's a reverb unit worth having right there. Great stuff. Whenever I get back in to gigging I may look at snagging something like that. That, a JMP-1 and a 50/50 Monobloc power amp and I'd be set in the rack department.

Re: Roland SRV-2000 secret

I'm assuming they designed one board that could pretty much do it all, then split it into a few different models.

Even if the SRV-2000 doesn't have every capability of the SDE-3000, it may have the same processor and plenty of delay parameters.

I haven't tried it yet. It's buried deep in my storage unit with other rack goodies I really should sell. I need to go dig out the SRV-2000, Furman power strip, and 4 space SKB rack. I was part owner of a recording studio in the 90's/early 2000's, so I've got a lot of stuff down there.

Re: Roland SRV-2000 secret

I have an SRV-330 and heard a similar legend about that turning into an SDE-330 with certain button combinations on startup. I haven't tried it as the SRV already has delay up to 370ms, and from what Internet urban legends I'm reading, the easter egg to switch to a delay does not actually turn it into a full delay unit with storable memory, but rather just activates an SDE delay you can use without saving. But without actually trying it, I can't tell how reliable any of this 'information' is. I don't want to do a factory reset if something goes wrong.

Re: Roland SRV-2000 secret

Probably a very good chance that they did make it with the same board and components, just programmed differently.
