Sansamp GT2 clone: How to connect it?

Hey guys, so i'm thinking of buying this GT2 clone (this one here, comes with a booster http://www.hobbertt.com.br/simulamp-ub.htm).

My question is, if i decide to play with it live, does it make all the job a POD would?

If so, should i connect it to a Direct Box (or DI box, i don't recall correctly) before i send it to the PA mixer?

(PS: I'm really struggling not to buy a new POD, since i discovered TODAY i can get AMAZING sounds without latency with those LePou VST's :scratchch)

No, sansamps dont funtion the same way as a pod. They do not have the ability to store patches that you can recall using a footswitch. But if you treat it like a nice single channel amp for direct recording or direct to desk its a really cool tool. The upside of the sansamps is that they sound pretty good and dont have any of that weird digital crackling sound. They also work fine using gain pedals into them.
If you want to go direct to desk tho...check out the para driver instead of the one you are looking at cos it is a real high quality direct box in its own right. It has balanced outs which also have switchable level contols for line or instrument level. You can use them for acoustic or bass guitar too. If you do not engage the pedal then it functions like a normal direct box, but if you engage the pedal then the gain and speaker sim circuits come into play. It has plenty of eq shaping too instead of the "amp sim" switches.
The GT2 and the clone thing you are looking at have a lot of sounds in them but they are not true direct boxes...think of them more as extremely versatile dirt boxes.
The other cool thing about the para driver is that you can use the parallel out for a send to your onstage monitor amp (non-effected sound) or you can use the effect out just like a normal sansamp pedal - or use 2 or more of the different outputs simultaneously.
This is the company website for the para driver:

That GT2 IS a direct box too. It can go straight into the PA.
I have one and it sounds pretty good. For Behringer, its held up just fine.

Re: Sansamp GT2 clone: How to connect it?

Hm, but the Para Driver is a direct box then? It's not a amp simulation pedal (it didn't say much on the site)?

"sans" amp. :) It's written on the tin. I find sansamp and sansamp types have a signature "stiff" boxy sort of sound in their cab sim. It's not necessarily bad, but it's immediately identifiable as a sansamp. You could bypass the cab sim and run it through something that gives more realistic cab sims if you're hoping for it to sound like a real amp, but if you dig that slightly surgical sans-amp sound, leave it be!

Hmm, i don't know, it's just i don't have much options within my budget at the moment, and i liked the sounds of the Clone. :P

If not with the clone, i could only go with the POD 2.0 (new) or the Zoom G3...I believe the GT2 is better right?

Re: Sansamp GT2 clone: How to connect it?

You know.... It actually sounds pretty darn good!

The Para Driver sounds really good! The Tone Bender plus the Para Driver, sounded better than many recordings from the 60's and 70's...

I'll see now if i can get a clone of the Para Driver plus a pedal or the GT2 Clone, cause buying an import would cost me as much as a POD, cause of these damn BR taxes... :/

Thanks for your help guys! :friday:

Re: Sansamp GT2 clone: How to connect it?

Thanks! I still have to make up my mind though...I'm indecisive as hell: ATM i have no amp or effects to play through, only Guitar Rig and Amplitube on computer, so i'm really struggling with what to buy 1st. :x

Re: Sansamp GT2 clone: How to connect it?

I'm thinking if it's the best solution...I have as options within my budget a Solid-State Digitech of 75w, with 12" speaker, a Valve Single-Ended of 6w with one chanel and an 8" speaker, the Blackstar HT-1, 1 watt and an 8 inch speaker, and the Fender Vibro Champ...

Now i would like very much to get the Blackstar or the Fender, but i'm afraid the Blackstar won't be loud enough even for bedroom level, and the Vibro i'm afraid it's tones won't sound well...Also i don't know if the Fender is Digital or not. :/

Plus i really like playing trough headphones, only thing is that the sound isn't as good as a valve amp...So many questions, lol :P
