Schecter C-7s vs Jackson Christian Olde Wolbers...

hi dudes, how are you doing?

well....so...i was looking for a seven string guitar without floyd...and saw a few models near 1000-1300 $...the stephen carpenter ones, the Christian Olde Wolbers signature axe and the schecter ones (the C-7 Blackjack and the C-7 Hellraiser)

the ltds just...i don´t like that design (can´t stand that emgs so near one of the other) but liked the baritone scale...

about the jackson axe i have read a couple reviews tellin bad and worse things about that guitar, but don´t know the real quality of this one

and about the schecters, i like the blackjack a lot... the "almost baritone scale", the duncans, the woods, hardware...etc etc...but, how the hell could it be so cheap then???!!!

korean made maybe? neither of this axes are american or japan made?

the prices goes from 1300 $ (the LTD models) to the Jackson (1000 $...cheap for a jackson isn´t it?) to the schecters (1000 $ for the Hellraiser and 870$ for the Blackjack...cheap for the lot of features they has, imo)

need your help dudes ...

So essentially you want a hardtail 7 string? I'm personally going for hte Viper 407, I just like it better than the rest. I prefer the control layout, and 3 way toggles kick the **** out of blades. Also, it comes with 81-7/707 set, so I can just switch them and have a killer set of pickups.

But, you said you didn't like it. I'd go for the Hellraiser if you can swing it. If not, the C-7 would be equally badass; just with different pickups.

I wouldn't go for the Jackson simply because of knob placement and lack of a neck pickup, but that's just me.

Interesting, I´d like to know where, I´ve heard nothing but Praise for the Iommi and COW models from both dealers and players since they were showed off at NAMM... and the 2 I´ve played were exactly as top-notch as I´ve come to expect from Jackson /Charvel Professional and USA lines....

ANd the Jackson is very much Japan made, btw.... Jackson has no korean facility and the word on the grapevine is that there are no plans to ever open one again

another question...i would like to tune the guitar in G drop :smack: (from 1st to 7th: dafCGDG so, do i need a baritone scale for that?

the string gauge will be an 11-49 and a 0.68 for the 7th string

...about the knob placement, there is no problem cause my bc rich has the volume knob in the same place...dunno what to think about just one pup...haven´t played one of that kind, but i think that a guitar with no tone pot and one pup is made for one reason...

but i think the baritone or standard scale is the core of the question... what do you think?

DROPPED G???

Dude baritone all the way. Jackson DK27. Hardtail, looks like the Woblers but without the black color and ebony board, neck pickup too.
Otherwise I say the Jackson, because I'm biased :laugh2:

You could use a standard 25.5 scale, but I'd go baritone.

Both of the Schecter 7 strings have 26.5 scale lengths; that'd work.

If it's anything like my H207 (which it will be loads better) then it'll kick major ass. I'd go with the 407 in a heartbeat

i could also tune the guitar like this:

1-6 standard ebgDAE and the 7th in G... the amp can even make that note sound clear (so its not so crazy, it is?... the bass player will kill me, but thats not the story ), but i think i will have problems with the low G because of the scale length... what do you think guys?

f.e.:zakk tunes his 6th (0.70) to G in a couple songs on his stronger than death record, and he doesn´t use a baritone scale guitar...so, can i solve this problem having a thicker 7th string only?

btw, thanks Pierre, but the DK27 is a six string guitar, i´m looking for a seven version of it...

If you wanna go down to G and have any type of tuning stability without a locking system, you will need a baritone, and probably a .074 string. I had a Yamaha Drop 6 baritone that I tuned drop F#, and strung it 18, 26, 36, 46, 56, 74 (all wound). It had a locking system, and the bottom string was still kinda wobbly.

As far as the HC reviews, The first one resonates wierd, especially" I blame Jackson for using too short of screws for the neck joint and DHL shipping for obviously whacking it against something to seperate the neck from the guitar. Luckily a local tech has made it good as new with dowels and longer screws. Even the stupid volume knob came loose from the factory. Quality work there Jackson"

If they used longer screws they´d go right through the fretboard and it´s OBVIOUS that the guitar had shipping damage.. but if course it´s ALL the manufacturers fault.... the Knob is possible but IMO nitpicking, it´s a metal dome knob with a setscrew in the side.... ever heard of a screwdriver?

Yet Interestingly enough, this guy doesn´t know what he paid for it but he was able to post the review on the very first day that they started shipping TO DEALERS.. No customer had his for a minimum of 24 hours after that, likely longer... looks like a total BS Review to me....

And to about 70% of the people that are pissed because it´s too light: You´ve been bitching to Jackson day in and day out for years about how the mahogany imports are too ****ing heavy.... now they´re using lighter pieces and OF COURSE you´re still bitching.... :smack:

You´ll amost certainly want a baritone... 11-68 is floppy as hell already in b-e, IMO unplayable under that on a normal scale... and IMHO the low b-string already sounds too flabby on a standard scale...

If all else fails man go for the Hellraiser, no flabby B to begin with but G......that's a little bit overkill.

so, which string gauge has the COW or the 7 string baritones then? the standard 7 string gauges are 10-56 aren´t they? so a 11 or maybe 12-68 isn´t enough? the ibanez k7 i had came with A tunning and i remember that the string gauge was a 10-56...with a standard scale...i mean...i want the guitar to be tuned the same way the k7 came but tunning down the seventh to G instead of A...is so much low that i´ll have to go to a baritone and use bass strings to play it decently? :smack: :laugh2: :laugh2:

You don´t HAVE to.. if you liked the K7 the experience will be similar, tension-wise... I just don´t like the tone or feel of standard scale guitars tuned that low

18-74? :saeek: where did you found that set dude? the thicker string i have found is the 70 of the zakk wylde set...

oh, i see...ok, so that helps a lot dude...anyway, do you still think that the C-7s will work better than the COW for me?

ok ok... now its time to try both guitars (the wolbers is easy to find out here as long as the dude from the store orders every jackson...but i´ll have a hard time finding the Blackjack or the Hellraiser) and come back with a review then

anyway, if there are more opinions about this axes... i´ll thank you for that
