Schecter pickup info

I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on the following Schecter pickups, and their suitability for playing metal generally and thrash in particular.

Pasadena neck
Pasadena Plus bridge

Brimstone-6 set

Apocalypse set

SuperCharger Mach-6 set

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these pickups -- tones, what they do well, what Seymour pickups they map to, etc.

Re: Schecter pickup info

The Pasadena set is the least suited to metal and thrash of all of those. I know Zacky Vengeance of Avenged Sevenfold uses them (the "Plus" bridge was actually made for him), but they'd be my last pick based on first hand experience.

Brimstone and Apocalypse are both heavy-hitting, high output pickups with great clarity, nice bite and plenty of oomph in a mix. I'd be happy with either one for metal and thrash, personally.

Haven't tried the SuperCharger Mach-6 set

Re: Schecter pickup info

I have a buddy who's had a few sets of the Apocalypse pups in 6 and 7s and they might be my favorite stock pups of all time - sound great for a variety of metal styles. DOn't have any experience with the others, though.

Re: Schecter pickup info

Thanks for the feedback. I've heard nothing but good things about the Apocalypse set. The Pasadenas seem to map to more of a hard rock/classic metal tone, though that Plus bridge is pretty high output. Haven't heard much about the SuperChargers, which I'm curious about.

I guess I also want to know how one would distinguish the Apocalypse, Brimstone, and SuperCharger sets. In terms of Seymour equivalences, are we comparing Black Winter, Distortion, and Full Shred?

Re: Schecter pickup info

Honestly my Pasadena Classic bridge handles heavy tunes very well, never muddy, always cutting.

Whoa, I finally got around to wiring back up the push/pull coil split that a previous owner of my 1996 Los Angeles custom shop Schecter had disconnected, which was a guitar I never really tried before.

Holy crap, why do people not talk about fat-pole Schecter USA pickups more?? These things sound phenomenal. They're simultaneously fat, articulate, and high power but roll back and clean up beautifully! Great splits too. And to top it all off, they're somehow even quieter than my EMG's?!

These things deserve a hell of a lot more love! Maybe people avoid them just because they look weird?

I think Ritchie Blackmore used Schecter fat pole pickups in his live guitars (Quarter Pounds in the Fender signature, but I don't think he ever used these).
