I have heard of the company but have never handled one of their guitars and the local shop does not have them.

The feedback I get is they are very high end with excellent fit and finish, is that the consensus around here also?

I was looking through their site and was considering going to a bigger city to try one out.

How is the tone on these machines?

Opinions?

Re: Schecter Quality?

I own three of them. They're all great guitars, especially for what their prices are.

Re: Schecter Quality?

I think they're better than a lot of my own guitars that I play all the time. Granted, I bought those long before I played a Schecter for the first time. If I had no guitars but a modest amount of money to spend and similar tastes to both (a) what I like in a guitar now and (b) what you've described you're looking for, Schecter would be on my short list. I think a good C-1 or similar can be so versatile for most rock and metal playing, that it could take the place of a handful of more specialized guitars. As for quality, of the half-dozen or more that I've played in stores, I have yet to run across any issues. I think they're solid and well made, especially considering the money. I think they're often on par with competing imports that are, say, 40% more at retail.

Re: Schecter Quality?

They have extremely nice price / quality ratio. Most probably, if you find a design there that is for you, it will serve you well.

Re: Schecter Quality?

Any of the South Korean manufactured Schecters are fantastic guitars, definitely some of the best for the money, and they offer a lot of models with real Seymour Duncan and EMG pickups. Quality has gotten a bit weaker at the lowest end of their price range since they outsourced the Omen series to Indonesia so if you are looking at one of those I would play it before you buy it.

Their US Custom Shop makes some of the best electric guitars I have ever seen or played, bar none, but are definitely on the pricy side.

Re: Schecter Quality?

I had a Schecter in the late 80s, sort of the Strat version of the Tele version that Roger Daltry used in the Eminence Front vid (I think). Excellent guitar, decent pups, felt fantastic, looked great...everything!

I don't remember where it was made.

I own a Schecter Tempest Special. Its basically a Goldtop with P90's. Different shape, but pretty much it. It;s Mahogany with a maple cap gold. When I got it it had real crappy EMG P90's. My initial intent was to use it for slide, but I put a set of Antiquity P90's in and it rocks pretty hard. It has really good tuning machines, tone pro bridge & tail piece as well as a nice rosewood fingerboard. The neck is very comfortable to play too. Nice guitar.. Something to consider is they don't hold value very well so you might be better off looking to buy it used..

I was looking at the "superstrats" they make on their website. Are they know for having good tones?
I have never actually heard one so...

Re: Schecter Quality?

I had a 2004 Schecter C-1+ that was my main gigging guitar for 3 or 4 years. It held up better than a lot of my guitars show after show. It had MANY pickup configurations but the final was a Custom/59 A2 hybrid bridge and some sort of a2pro hybrid. Overall a fantastic guitar. Here it is with the above mentioned pup combo

They're great guitars. Especially for the money but even not counting that, great guitars, period.

Re: Schecter Quality?

Yes! They are GREAT guitars. Great looking, great finish, great playing, great sounding, great quality, great price.

I've got a 4 year old C-1 Hellraiser that I put a set of P-Rails and Triple Shots in. It's a tone monster.

I'm sorry, but I can't think of anything negative to say about it.

I just picked up more recent 'version' of the Tempest Special and it is VERY nice. 2 Duncan p90's stock! (sp90-1 and sp90-2). Can't say enough good things about this guitar...and for the money? Forget it... best short-scale p90 I have played.

The Temptest Custom I got used sees more action than any of my other guitars, it's my favorite. It's my only Schecter, but it makes me wnat more. I replaced the DD pups with SD's though, much better. It's just so comfortable and sexy. It's so nice. It made my Gibson LP a casequeen, and now I wonder why I spent so much on the Gibby for it to just rot in its case. If I would have known how nice it was, I could have saved a lot of money, but I just can't bring myself to sell the "nicer" guitars.

Re: Schecter Quality?

Great great great guitars for the price! :) I didn't care for the mega jumbo frets on it but that was my only "complaint" which for the price, is not a complaint at all!
