School me on Squier

I find with most cheaper guitars (and Squier's certainly fit in that box), you really need to go in to a shop and play several of them to get a feel for one that you like. There tends to be more variation in sound and feel - a few will be really stellar and a few will be dogs.

i agree, but id say you should always go to a shop and play the actual guitar you take home. i played 20+ gibson les pauls before i found a great one that wasnt a custom shop model

Absolutely! There are only a few brands I've found to be consistent enough that I'd risk buying before playing. If I like the specs for the neck and frets I've found that for PRS, Taylor, Godin, and Ibanez the pricier models almost always tend to be guitars that I'm happy with as far as sound/play-ability goes whenever I pick one up. Gibson and Martin especially are the expensive guitars that seem to be all over the place and really require you sort through to find one that speaks to you.

prs and taylor for sure. i havent played enough godins to make that call, but the ones i have played have been great.

There is a wildly gigantic level of variation between Gibson USA guitars, even of the same model.

the custom shop models are mostly consistently great, but there is still variation where i prefer one over another
