Screamin Pinecaster Lover (while I wait)

So I had lost interest in all things guitar for a few years (including this forum, glad to be back :)) but in recent weeks renewed my interest in playing, building and the overall hobby. Then it happened; I reruptured a tendon in my little finger originally injured 35 years ago (strumming/pickung hand), required surgery and am now recovering in a splint. Fortunately, I can sit and noodle a little bit, and am working my left hand technique almost daily.

But while I heal, exercise and wait to regain full use of my hand back to the topic of this thread - parts sitting around the past few years:

Pine HH Tele body. Was originally going to be finished clear, changed my mind and finished it in Dodge Granite Crystal Metallic (to match my car) but it came out awful (mopar paint?). Then I tried Reranch Fiesta Red. Came out Ok, but too salmony. I sanded it back and it is now in primer waiting to be sprayed Duplicolor Metal Specks Burnt Copper.

I also have a brand new Warmoth vintage modern maple neck already finished with Tru oil , tuners installed, and 1/2 length (non tele bridge pup) Wilkenson compensated saddle bridge all sitting around to mate up to the pine body.

As for pickups what I have here (as suggested in the thread title) are a Seth Lover bridge and a Screamin Demon (full HB size) I am aiming to put in the neck slot.

The plan is for the SL bridge pup to either direct mount or use a low mounting ring and for the Demon to go in a HB pickguard slot.

So while I plan this all out in my head....

How will these pups behave in a pine body, sugar pine IIRC?

Will they compliment each other? I cant recall ever reading anyone using this combo. If not, then I would consider a matching SL or a strat single in the neck position. Or maybe even springing for a Whole Lotta HB set

Your thoughts and feedback are much appreciated as I count the days until I am able to get hands-on with this project !!

A Seth in the bridge and a Demon in the neck....mmmmm not sure I am feeling that mix.

I generally don't like the Seth's too much, if you are looking for clean sounds I could see it but then the Demon in the neck? I'd want something much closer in output to the Seth bridge. Flipping them around would be a better match up for my brain, Demon bridge/Seth neck. Maybe even try an A2 in the Demon for a better tonal balance. I'm not big on mismatched mag pairs though fwiw. I've played a few pine Tele's but all single coil setups, I am not sure how to explain the difference I noticed but it was more in the front part of the sound. Much different feel on the pick attack almost semi-hollow-ish maybe?

Sorry about your hand

Re: Screamin Pinecaster Lover (while I wait)

I have 2 guitars with the Screamin Demon in the bridge and they sound amazing! Just a roll off of the volume and it cleans right up like it says in the description on SD website. I use to have a Lil Screamin Demon in the bridge of a Squire that I sold off years ago and I'm trying to recreate that guitar again. Just don't have the cash to be spending on pick ups right now. I have a Cool Rails for bridge and a Hot Stack for neck in my old parts bin and trying to figure out what I am going to do with those.

Sorry I can't help you on the SL as I have never played one of those, but the Demon really matches the sound description it says it does. Especially when you roll down the volume a bit. But crank it up and it is awesome! If you are looking for a"Screamin Pinecaster" the Demon would be the one I would pick for the bridge!

Hope your tendon heals quickly! I cut my ring finger tendon right as it attaches on the knuckle of my strumming hand one time and it wasn't fun!

These are the 2 I have Demons in.

Re: Screamin Pinecaster Lover (while I wait)

I had the demon in other guitars, tried both bridge and neck position and definitely liked it. I got the Seth a long time ago but never tried. Right now I have no humbucker guitars and these are the only ones I have in my parts box, with an H-H routed Tele body, so thats my starting point.

Thanks both (keep em coming)

I'm have no experience with the Seth Lover but I have used the Screamin Demon in the neck–awesome neck pickup! I had it paired with a Dimebucker and would ask you to please consider this combo!

The Dimebucker gets over looked because of the name/association; however, it is a super versatile pickup and could have been marketed as a Chickin' Pickin' pickup. Yes, it does metal BUT it nails blues to rock to country.

First, welcome back!! Second, sorry to hear bout your hand!! Hope you have a full and speedy recovery!! Never heard of that pup combo together and don't see too many pine guits. All I can say is try and see.. The Demon in the bridge should, well, scream.. The Seth seems like it would be an underpowered match, but neck position doesn't need a whole lotta firepower. May end up being pretty cool

Love me some piney caster goodness. Been playing the heck outta my Modern Player tele with a pine body and right now thinking about dropping the Zebra 59 Custom hybrid I have on hand in the bridge>
here is my "pine caster".

She has her own bark!! Live through my .50 cal +.

Re: Screamin Pinecaster Lover (while I wait)

Ok so the sentiment seems to be the Seth and Demon might not pair up well. So going through my pup box I forgot I also have an old Peavey super Ferrite single rail (ceramic , HB footprint). Any opinions on the Demon in the bridge and Peavey SF in the neck, or vice versa?

EDIT: I know the "correct" answer is to try it but Im still recovering from hand surgery and can't tinker yet so the best I can do is research and solicit opinions. Thanks!
