Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

Even though this is an old thread, I can't believe nobody said it yet:

The Custom 8. The King of Everything That's Holy in tone.

And no, I don't care I can have it as a Shop Floor Custom model. Being in Italy, convincing a dealer to place the order to the importer is by no means an easy task. And they'll make you pay as a Custom Order anyway!

WORD bro WORD this one should be a production model.
I voted Crazy 8 as it was the closest to the Custom 8.
Of those listed truly the Brobucker would IMO make a solid production pickup. It would stack up well with the Dimarzio Virtual Hot PAF which is one of my favorite Pickups they do.

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

So I don't have to waste 4 weeks waiting for a Brobucker.

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

Interesting! That's the same as the Holdsworth or an educated guess based on similarity in looks and specs?

That was my understanding, and the same bridge pup Jake E Lee used.

I ordered one for my JEL inspired build. :D

It would be very interesting if Evan would pop in and tell us the liklihood or not of listening to us !!!!

If not, why not ??? :naughty:

Yes that would be cool and i also wonder how many more votes the 78 would have gotten if it had NO VH connection?

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

How do Dimarzio do it? they have a huge line of pickups around 10-11K...

Guys, DC reading doesn't mean TONE.

I've wound p'ups into that range... believe me, that's NOT where TONE lives, mind you...

HTH,

HTH,

I agree check this for one of many examples,
http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/humbuckers/high-power/crunch-lab
this is a 11K pup but is not paf or vintage toned at all!
resistance means very little:14:
here is a 8.7K pup that is as hot as a super distortion in output

Brobucker and Phat Stample of course... And some more like 78.

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

I actually have a couple non-Custom shop Brobuckers. When I was at User Group Day, I chose the Brobucker, since I already love the original one I have.

The reason UGD humbuckers couldn't be custom shop was because we were winding our own out on the floor. So the specs had to change. Instead of mismatched coils, they were both 5K equaling 10K. I'm also not sure if we used dun-aged magnets or not either.

So, I'd say they sound similar but not exactly the same. The shop floor version sounds a little tighter and brighter, but that's not a necessarily a bad thing. But there is a difference between what you'll get for $75 and what you'd get for $160.

HTH,

wish that were true man. people want to believe that DC equals some kind of tone.

Well whats the point of making it "production" if the specs are going to change. Why did winding your own necessarily mean the spec had to change?

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

I know you flip the magnets to achieve the Peter Green tone in an Antiquity, but it would be nice to have the Greenie set as a regular production.

+1. Most guys aren't going to open up a PU to do that. Few players can match Peter's emotional style and tone. A Greenie PU makes sense as a production model.

That was my question too, but it was hard to get MJ's attention that day, as she had dozens of others to deal with and get our UGD pickups done.

I didn't notice anything different until the assembly worker let me hit the start button on the winding machine, and both bobbins came out matched.

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

'78 please!

I hope to heck you guys do this with the '78, because you'll sell a zillion of those things if it's a production line pickup. Think about it, most ppl don't know about the Custom Shop, and the '78 is a legendary (for good reason) pickup...but it's legendary among a not-so-big- group of ppl...like us!

Make the '78 a production model, and in 2 years that bad boy will outsell Oreo Cookies and Big Macs

Does it sound any different than your CS Brobucker?

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

How about S-Deco including an A2, A5, A8 and Ceramic magnet? ;)

Re: SD Custom Shop humbuckers you want to be Regular Production Humbuckers

This isn't about any one of us in particular. This is about what the average player should have available to him as a regular production model. Think big picture.

... and all members here have to be benevolent as far as the "average" player is concerned!
