Sd Sfx 02 & 03

Reining PunLowered
I am test-driving the Tweak Fuzz and the Twin Tube Classic. I played both tonight through my Peavey Bandit 112S (I know, I know, but believe it or not, this amp has a great clean channel).

First up, the Parker Fly Deluxe, equipped with MJ's magical creations: rebuilt original pups to Brobucker and A2Pro specs.

The TTC sounded good. Very good. Nice and warm tone, and the eq(bass/treble) allows for tweaking of the tone. Rhythm channel has less gain, but still gives a good crunch. The lead channel is even warmer, and allows more distortion.

The TF, OTOH, was quite bright sounding with the Parker. No eq settings, so I couldn't roll off the highs at the pedal. Even with rolling off the treble on the guitar, it was quite bright. It does have 6 fuzz settings, from mild to heavy crunch (the sound clips on the SD product page are fair representations of this pedal).

So, I decided to give LesStrat a chance at these pedals.

TTC? Still sounded good. TF? Much better, less bright (LS is a DARK guitar, and I don't just mean the black finish). Still, I'm not sure how much use I would get out of a TF (and I have been watching 'net bargains on it).

Bottom line, two pedals that are two different animals (by design). I could see uses for both in different applications, but probably not for me.

I'll know more when I test with another amp in a day or so. I'll add to the review then.

Re: Sd Sfx 02 & 03

i wouldnt throw in the towel too quick on the TF. I've found that it takes me at least a week of experimentation with the different fuzz pedals ive had until i've found the settings that work best.

Re: Sd Sfx 02 & 03

Do you usually like fuzz pedals? It seems that guys either love them or hate them, without much middle ground.

Re: Sd Sfx 02 & 03

The TTC is the only OD/Dist. pedal I think I'll ever need in my current setup.:D

+1 And I sold/traded some top other models opting to keep the SFX03.

I was about to get a TF but grabbed HBE UFO in a trade....haven't looked back on that one :bigthumb:

Thanks for the review LesStrat :beerchug:

Re: Sd Sfx 02 & 03

I'll give 'em a whirl with Franklin either this evening or tomorrow. At least one of them (probably the TTC) will go to church with us.:D

Re: Sd Sfx 02 & 03

Both pedals worked well with Franklin. Rob is correct. I guess I'm one of those guys that just doesn't care for Fuzz pedals. It did NOT sound bad, but it was still a bit bright for my taste, and too "fuzzy."

I like what the TTC did with Franklin, and would recommend it as an overdrive pedal. It could be a fine addition to any pedalboard.

The TF could be as well, if you're into fuzz.
