SDUG Ultimate Axe - Category 3; Les Paul Copies

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Let be clear here, the category is LOOSE. ANY non-Gibson LP-style. I may ask you to defend the Les Paulness of it. Regardless, STYLE is important Things I will accept here include: Single cuts, Double cuts (NO SG's!!!!!). Semi Hollows if Les PAul enough. All of your Dean Cadillacs, Solteros, Decievers would go here, HAmer Double cuts, ESP/LTD Eclipse/1000's, Epiphone IS allowed, Burny, Greco, Edwards, and yes...AGILE fans - this your chance to OWN. PRS would be allowed as well!

HAve at it gentlemen. Let's see some Woking man's axes!!!!! None of this Blues LAwyer crap.

Damn, I was hoping this one wouldn't come up until my Warmoth is back together. I'm only a week or two away from getting it done.

There's always next year, I suppose.

It doesn't need to work, just look - an hour should be long enough to get the parts in roughly the right place for a photo session - who's gonna know...

... well, now we all know. I always swore I'd only vote for functional guitars, so...

Darn, do I reuse the same pic as always? Decisions, decisions.

Y'all are about to behold the glory of my beautiful Alpine White Les Paul Custom made by a little known high-end builder called "Epiphone."

White, gold, pearl, and black never looked so good.

My 2009 Epiphone Les Paul Standard, originally a plain top cherry sunburst model. Was burnt and oiled, but I'm sure the oil is long gone now, and there isn't a whole lot to say about it other than what you see it the picture. Nice duct tape covered strap because the original strap design looked bad. This thing has gone through hell, and has a Custom + in the bridge, and a GFS Crunchy PAT neck pickup with an A4 magnet. Middle position is out of phase, one master volume, one high filter knob, one low filter knob, and a Jaegermeister cap. Can take a picture of the headstock to prove it is an Epiphone if needed.

So broad an entry field.

OK, I guess this goes here but it doesn't quite feel like the right category.

Don't forget the one photo rule. :naughty:

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe - Category 3; Les Paul Copies

Lets just pretend these are Seymour Duncan Blackouts, cause thats whats going into this guitar as soon as possible, but for now, I'll just say they are "actives". ladies and germs , I preset to you the one, the only( well, not exactly the only) "HamerSlayer"-hehe, I'm voting for BTMNs Hamer though! It's just an Epiphone Korean Zakk Wylde - one of the earlier before they started making the real cheap ones in Indochina.

Like the white Burney above, its a massive piece of wood, goes 10 pounds, which just sustains like nuts and delivers massive trauma inducing power chord blows, but sounds very woody clean! I can't imagine this sounds much worse than an early 70's les paul. Its also one of my success jobs at leveling ,because Epis play like dung out of the box- at least if you are looking for low Gibson type action, and I really had to wrestle a long time with these frets, but now plays really awesome with strings laying practically right on the board- bends a full 1/3 octave...;

Here's the only pic of mine ATM, she's in storage.

It's actually an Aria copy of a Heritage copy of a Les Paul.
All Schaller hardware and Schaller Golden 50 pickups.

Cheers, Will

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe - Category 3; Les Paul Copies

Define HOW loose.

If we're talking "ballpark looks will do" loose then I'd like to add my latest acquisition, the Parker Fly Mojo Single Cut:
imag0358d.jpg

Reasons she SHOULD be considered: Like I said, ballpark LP looks and woods including a KILLER quilted top. Also, she does SOUND the part. Not 100% LP obviously but more like a LP than a Strat anyway.
Reasons NOT to include her: Well, she IS a Parker which means the Mahogany body is only half as thick as a typical LP plus the scale length is 25.5", not 24.75".

Now, I might need a clarification, if she does NOT qualify can I post another one in her place? I promise that one is much closer to typical LP specs (but this is the one I wanna show off this time :9:).

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe - Category 3; Les Paul Copies

I will of course post this.... My favorite guitar. :)

It's a 2007 Tokai LS75/85 (Unclarity on exact model). Proper MIJ. Unlike so many other LP copies, this is a proper old school honking Les Paul style guitar. Got a thick '59 Rounded profile and a heavy body. Magnificent sound and look - very different, as its a Standard in cream white. I really like that it's a proper road warrior. I dislike pretty guitars that are case queens - they are made to be used, this one has it's fair share of scratches, dings and what not. But to hell with all those imperfections - it plays like butter and feels just right. Pickups are a set of Alnico II Pro Slash's - no A8 mojo here, just plain old ballsy PAFs. A true working mans guitar, and it looks damn good imo :)

Enjoy :)

I actually really like that. Did you sand it before you burnt it? How did you do the burning?

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe - Category 3; Les Paul Copies

Since he wont nominate himself, I don't think, I submit Aceman's 2003 Dean Dean Owner's of America Limited Edition Cadillac one of 12.

Re: SDUG Ultimate Axe - Category 3; Les Paul Copies

Well here's my Agile AL-3000M. Has a solid 2 piece plain top and a 2 piece back. 9.8 lbs. Ebony fretboard, and I'll tell ya I'm not wild about the inlays but I don't hate em either.

The neck is a alnico 2 Jazz Neck and the bridge is a potted Gibson Burstbucker #2. I like the a2 in the Jazz. Burstbucker is nice but it just doesn't match up well, so it'll probably go at some point.

This is my second agile guitar and this one sounds much less tinny and compressed than the last one. Luck of the internet draw I guess?
