SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

Yeah that's where I found out about it ,but don't worry about me being a oncer I have many more guitars to share with you all if you don't mind

No not at all. The more the merrier. There's a lot of really good helpful people on this site. I've gotten help from everything from blues soloing to chorus pedal trouble to how to ask a girl out. There's some really cool guys (and girls) here.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

Effin A. I've got more pointies than roundies-at least one that's super damned pointy-but I made my one entry and I'm sticking by it.

Seriously. When we do the hollowbodies, I'm going to have to choose between my Hamer Echotone or my Epi Casino (probably go with the Hamer, cause it's my main axe). When the rules came out it said one entry per person and that's how it should be. Nothing against the newbies. You guys have a lot of cool guitars, and I know that you weren't here when the news was posted, but there are rules to this.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

I really don't expect to "win" so the "rules" really do not matter to me. Someone said post pics of yer pointies and I posted pics of my pointies.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

your blatant disregard of the rules PO'd me. Clearly stated ONE ENTRY PER PERSON!!!
Where? This is the original post:
Get out the sharpeners, and everyone else be sure to wear your protective gear!!!

Pointy is defined as ANYTHING having a non rounded bout/bottom/horn/edge. examples include but are NOT limited to Warlocks, Ironbirds, Explorers, Vs, ML's, you name it. It doesn't have to be "sharp" or "metal" but you know the vibe we are going for.

A sweet Korina V or a Cherry Gibson explorer are NOT it. Feel free to post though, you never know.

Let's see your edged weapons gentlemen!!!!!!!

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

from the first Ultimate Axe category thread (and this applies to all subsequent categories as well, including this one!):

The Rules:

#1 ONE ENTRY PER CATEGORY PER CONTESTANT - that means if you have ten PRS's, pick one and ONLY one to enter in this category.

#2 YOU MUST CURRENTLY OWN THE GUITAR - Not "it's on the way" not "I just sold it" or any of that. If you get called out there had better be a photo of you, at your address with today's paper holding the axe.

#3 ONLY ONE PIC of said entry may be posted. Choose your best!

#4 You may enter said guitar in any or as many categories as it qualifies for.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

Let's be frank, it's a beauty contest. Vintage-vibe "makes me think of my childhood" Gibson-style roundhorn V or Explorer (made by Dean, Hamer, or anyone other than Gibson) with a nice top or "Hendrix" appointments or "looks like McCarty intended", or "woohoo Dimebag, miss ya' bro" gets the win.
Dude's pink Carvin has a snowball's chance in Ecuador.

My Black Mayhem.

ESP Horizon FR-II Transparent Black. It has a beautiful quilted maple top but it doesn't show up in the picture. Seymour Duncan JB/59'.

ok seriously, I have to say something....

A super strat with a pointy headstock does not a pointy guitar make.

Am I the only one who stands firm on this?

the BODY has got to be pointy to be a pointy guitar! It's gotta look insanely aggressive, and a curvy sexy super strat body DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THAT REGARDLESS OF THE KIND OF HEADSTOCK IT HAS!!!!!!!!!!

That doesn't mean all these super strats are useless, far from it - there should be a superstrat category of its own where all these axes can go.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

^ Yep. I'd let that ESP Horizon *** ** ******** with a ******* toaster, but it's not a pointy.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

My guitar wasn't well accepted :(

In my defense, an ESP Horizon is NOT a super strat!!

Sorry, bud. Read the previous 7 pages. We've established that a Superstrat is a...well...something, but not a pointy.

Not sure if this counts because its got a vintage vibe going on.

My #1 player in all my collection - a 2004 Gibson V that used to be white (ebony board) but has aged yellow with all kinds of natural relic wear. WCR Godwood/Darkburst pickups, witch hat knobs.

^ Did you change pickups in that recently?

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

No, they've been that way a while. At one time I had cream Dimarzios in it, but that was at least a year or two ago.

Re: SDUG ULTIMATE AXE - CAtegory 4; Pointies

Oh. Maybe I should have used a different word instead of "recently". But yeah, I was remembering the DiMarzios.

How is it not a superstrat? I classify a superstrat as a stratocaster shaped outline with non-usual strat hardware. I think of a humbucker and two single coils with a floyd as a superstrat. I think of three single coils with a Floyd and 24 frets a superstrat. By my definition, your ESP Horizon most definitely qualifies as a superstrat.
