Re: SDUGF Pickup - What Will It Do (Again)

I like the idea of adjustable poles but that's just me.

Re: SDUGF Pickup - What Will It Do (Again)

Basically I'm between the
  • Smooth, Fat Gilmour Inspired Pickup
  • Bluesy SRV Inspired Pickup
  • Brian May Design (With Our Own Tweaks)
AND I'd be cool with the Blackmore :D:D:D

I guess you can see why I'm having trouble voting:D

Re: SDUGF Pickup - What Will It Do (Again)

Blackmore, didn't always use a QP. He moved to Lace Hot Golds somewhere in the late 80's IMHO and before the QP he used different Strat pickups.

Before the Quarter pounder he used Schecter strat pickups, I can't remember the name of the exact model but they had large polepieces and a fat sound. When they stopped being sold aftermarket, his tech switched him over to Quarter pounders because they sounded almost exactly the same, if not better, and had a similar fundamental design.

The lace sensor thing was a big mistake, I dislike his tone from that era.

Btw, I still love him to death and that's what I voted. And I think a good hard rocking neck pickup would go amazingly with the PATB in my strat.

Re: SDUGF Pickup - What Will It Do (Again)

Can someone please tell me what the deal is for the User Group Day or this SDUGF pickup is? Im not sure what were voting on @ the top--

Im a little new here and Ive heard a few people mention it but never really known what the deal with it is... Also, I know that people have said that SD does monitor this forum for Idea's on new pickup designs. How exactly do they do that??

Re: SDUGF Pickup - What Will It Do (Again)

The problem I see is that 3 of those options are already SD production pickups.
The pickup won't be by any way associated with the artists in the poll - their names are just meant to help us define the style of pickup (output, musical style, etc...). The voicing of the finished product might be pretty different.

You don't have to read the entire thread but at the very least read the Original Post...

Im not sure if that was supposed to answer my question??

Im trying to figure out what were voting on up top??

The side note question had to do with this User Group Day that I keep hearing about?? Whats' the deal with that? When? Where?

If Im guessing correctly Seymour Duncan is creating a new pickup based on the collaboration of Forum input-and what the users are desiring. Is that right??

FYI : I did read a deal of the thread and it still seems like Im missing something when I read it--I was hopeing that someone could catch me up?? Looks like Ive missed a few postings of this-- ;-)

What, nobody wants a...........soft rocking pickup?

(recoils, shields face with arms)

Re: SDUGF Pickup - What Will It Do (Again)

I would like a neck & middle set that is modern construction / vintage tone.

Tone: inbetween Surfers and Texas Hots (closer to the Surfers). Similar mojo.
Magnet polarity: Standard
Magnet stagger: setup for modern flatter radius necks w/ no wound G
RW/RP for middle pup.

Heh, I never thought of that, but would be friggin cool! I could handle a lil 78 or lil Diablo or really any lil "insert custom shop p/up here".

SDUGF means Seymour Duncan User Group Forum. No User Group Day sadly...

The people from SD are active on this forum (Evan and Frank) and it helps them get ideas for new desired designs and to hear good or bad opinions about the pickups. I guess that the constant (and somewhat annoying) comparisons with Dimarzio also help them gather useful information.

Being in touch with your customers is always a good idea.

Yeah! Once I had the ultimate Strat neck & middle pups, the glaring missing ingredient would be a decent bridge pup. Something not too overpowering; but not thin and useless like a standard vintage bridge pup.
