hmmm i'm gonna try all those things you suggested. I'm in a strange position - i read up on the pickup and loved the sound of it, but when installed it sounds naff at the moment. Its like i really want to like it, but dont.

I know the balence is always going to be an issue - you have a single coil twangy tele pickup mixed with a warmish 50s PAF - weird combo! - thanks for everyones comments and tips. its the first time i posted on here and the response has been amazing! cheers guys!

I've got a USA Hamer Artist with two Seth Lovers stock and wouldn't think of changing them. The neck pup is not muddy at all, in fact the nickle cover is there to retain highs that might be reduced my a magnetic cover. They sound vintage PAF to my ears, with plenty of highs. Listen to clips of the seths on the Duncan site and if yours don't sound the same with the proper pot then consider that you might have a dud and get a replacement. I think G&L uses the same pup in their "bluesboy" Tele's and it's one of their best sellers. I know I want one!

I bought a bluesboy recently and I thought the Seth Lover neck pup was nice...but mediocre. I got an anniversary Seth Lover off ebay (with Alnico 2 magnets), and now I'm in love with the guitar. If you can get your hands on a 50th anniversary Seth Lover you might be happy with the sound. It's really a different animal than the Stock Seth Lover.

That's because they have alnico 5 magnets, I believe.

They were available in both configurations, A5 and A2.

This was actually not the original intent..

IIRC they were supposed to be normal seths with an engraved cover. But MF dropped the ball and advertised them as having A-5 magnets, and so they had to have a whole ´nother batch made that actually HAD A-5 magnets. Could´ve been the other way around, though...;)

The threads are unfortunately gone because IIRC it was before the software switch.....

The Anniversary Seths came in both A2 and A5 mag versions. The A2 version though should just be a std seth.

Maybe I got tricked then. Maybe it's not a true Anniversary Seth after all. It is double cream though...mmmmmm. Whatever it is, it definitely sounds like it's from Seymour Duncan, and it's definitely the best pickup I've ever had the pleasure to use. This guitar has just taken the number one spot in my collection and has become my new baby. I have a feeling it must be a custom shop pup to have the tone that it has though. I've never heard anything like it before. It kicks the stock Seth's behind all over the countryside and back again. It's got a stronger output than a standard Seth, with more clarity (believe it or not). I've got the cover off, but I'm not sure it would make that much difference in the tone. I wish I knew exactly what is, so I could put a pair of em' in my Les Paul.

More clarity and output? I'm thinking it's an A5 for sure at this point.

I thought the Seth neck sounded muddy, too. I ended swapping the A2 for an A5 magnet.
