Seth Lover on Flying V? How do you think?

I have a Dean USA Michael Schenker model. It looks great, nice B&W flame painting.
But my concern was that I am not a fan of the stock pickups called Lights Out, which is Schenker signature.
That pickups should be great with heavy metal or solo player like Michael Schenker himself.
I play more on rythm in alternative & punk genre. Or classic rock like AC/DC with overdrive / crunch gain.
So I decided to change the pickups and I am thinking of Seth Lover, because I have a good experience with Ant. in my old BFG.
Ant. is still considerable, but my V is so shinny and looks morden that I better take shinny cover if both Seth Lover and Ant. are similar.
(It may sound stupid, but take a look at the pic of my guitar. It doesn't match with Ants' look.

Here is my question. Anyone has tried Seth Lover or Antiquity on Flying V?
Mine is Dean, but I guess it should be similar to Gibson's Flying V

For your understanding, in my ears, Lights Out pick ups are very similar with 496R&500T; however, some people say it's like Time Zone or Duncan Custom or whatever. To me it's just 500T with a bit more coiled. I personally don't like to full stroke 500T because it crushes the chords.

Please give me your opinions, V'ers!

Schenker was known to use the Gibson 57's and the Schaller Golden 50's during his long career. Both are vintage type pickups. I think you will be just fine with the Seth Lovers. Have fun with your Dean. They are good guitars. (Notice my sig.)

Schenker used 57 Classic? It was in my list, too. I like 57 classic sound. I just don't like the price, like I'm paying extra money for the brand.
Yeah Dean is great. If I need another guitar, then I like to buy ML.

Seths are quite alright for most situations.

However, in your specific case, I think you'll be better off with an APH-1 set.

HTH,

Thanks for suggetion. Earlier, APH-2 was considered. I just didn't want to spend extra 10 to 15 bucks for Slash name.
I didn't think about APH-1 . I will check the sound of it.

I think the APH-1's are much better-sounding than '57's, which to me are kind of muddy and lackluster, besides being grossly over-priced. There are many better PU's for less money, APH-1's being one of them.

Re: Seth Lover on Flying V? How do you think?

The great thing about APH-1's, is you can keep them clean, for that hi-fi tone, or drive them through any dirt/OD pedal/amp that you want, and they get the job done. Think Slash.

Good comment, bluesman335. This is what I'm thinking. I like to more care about old products which are not highlighted anymore.
Spending 50 more bucks for buying new trendy pickups is not a big problem. I just don't want to be fooled by marketing but just want to hunt for forgotten treasures.

Yeah, as many of you are recommending APH-1, I'm more towards to purchasing APH-1. I like the character of APH-1 by reading your comment. I'm playing rock music, but I think enough overdrive can be made by amp...like AC/DC or punk like Green Day.

For AC/DC type tone I would rather gravitate towards '59 or WLH than APH-1. A5 also sound tighter/punchier at rhythm playing, so they'd be the more obvious choice for punk type stuff.
You could also opt for something like a '59 bridge and APH-1 neck. Tighter rhythms in the bridge and creamier leads and meatier cleans in the neck.

Thanks El Supremo. I thought about '59 at the first until I saw that it is alnico 5. I'm feeling alnico 2.
I am a mid EQ lover who likes Flying V because of its unique mid tone, and I realized I don't like ceramic.
I had an experience with JB on Flying V. It was quite impressive, but just not my cup of tea. It sounded modern to me.
If I do thrash metal or even glam rock, then I will surely choose JB.

If I am choosing a pickup set for Les Paul or normal shaped guitar, I wouldn't worry much because I can check on YouTube or hear the sample sounds on the site.
Since Flying V doesn't have many references -there are many actually, but those are for heavy metal with high gain-, I need help from you guys :)
First reason I thought about Sath Lovers was because I liked Antiquity tone on BFG. I had a bias it should be for folk or blues music, but it was not.
It rawfully cried when I push some overdrives, with airy voices and some of grid, like a old king who still can fight in the battle field.
Now, my another Flying V has 57 Classic+on B & P90 on N.
It sounds cool, except 57 Classic sounds too 'stock'...it is like a student who scores perfect in math class, always carries thick book on his hand, and pencil on the other hand.

I want vintage & raw sound :) That's why I would like to choose in alnico 2.

Re: Seth Lover on Flying V? How do you think?

If you want raw, you definetely want A5. A2 is generally smoother and darker. Both do vintage well with the right wind though (a2, a3, a4 and a5 were all you used for PAFs).
As far as the JB goes, it has a sound all of it's own. I wouldn't write a magnet type off if you didn't jive with the JB.

But if you're set on A2 for rock, the APH-1 set should do you right.

Re: Seth Lover on Flying V? How do you think?

Seth Lovers are very similar to the original Gibson pafs that would have come in a real Gibson '58 Flying V as played by Albert King.

Check out Albert's tone:

Maybe Flying V with JB I played was not in good condition, so that it gave me a bias.
After reading your comment, I searched several vid clips, playing Flying V with JB.
One of them was great, sounds very similar with Michael Schenker.
Well, I guess I need a mindmap or something.

What I like : warm, thick mid, round shape of grit, airy, raw
What I don't like : compressed, unclear note when full stroke at distortion, too much sizzling (small is fine)

My personal taste is early albums of Aerosmith, like Walkin' The Dog. If they put more fat mid on it, it would be perfect for my ear.
Or AC/DC sound with a bit toned down. Old sound of Michael Schenker is cool, too. Not recent sound.

Now I'm considering APH-1, and seeking for more clips of JB on Flying V. Thanks for recommendation!

Lewguitar showed me a vid clip of Albert King. It makes me confused again. Probably Seth Lovers would be the right choice.
I'm in big confusion now. lol.

Oh my god. I love it. It sounds like a very virtuous lady. Thanks! I was not fan of blues so I didn't even think about Albert King but this vid clip gave me a clue.
