For hole recording, I mic up my guitar amp. How do you guys set the tone (guitar + mic placement) when listening to nearfields considering how different they sound compared to guitar speakers and Home Stereo's?
I'm not sure I understand? When I set out to make a recording I usually have a firm Idea of what I want it to sound like e.g. heavy guitars like Metallica or a Vox AC30 tone like U2. I usally just try and get a good full range of frequencies and just enough crunch (not so much that it becomes mud). It's easier to subtract frequencies than try and add what's not there.
