That is a strangely comforting thought. Gibson needs to get back to basics and do what they do best... which is build overpriced guitars with pretty tops for more money than most can afford. But in the end most of us still love them.

I may have to go to the doctor for a brain MRI, but the Street Race one isn't bad. Not for $4999 mind you, but 6 months down the line on Reverb or eBay for $2k........

You just know there are a ton of ideas that made it through some level of approval but were finally shelved. I bet that list was interesting.

Read up on how much Gibson lost on the robot tuners or the Experience Hendrix guitar.

No way the bondholders let Henry stay on and reorganize the debt.

Gibson just needs to make the full transition to making applicances. They haven't had any good ideas in recent years and guitarists are fickle bunch which doesn't help. Marketing in the guitar business is got to the biggest pain there is.

They're getting their asses kicked on tech stuff from what I've read.

These guitars are off of the Custom line which go for $4k now so the price isn't that insane relatively speaking

I think I have to agree with that. Gibson is a "used to be" company that thinks their name is all they need. Who cares about quality. Who cares about coolness. Who cares about what the players want. Who cares about the cost. They think that if they put the name "Gibson" on the headstock it will sell.

Sorry folks at Gibson, but I have to say that I for one don't care if you fail and go out of business for good, there are plenty of better companies out there making WAY better guitars at WAY more reasonable prices.

(Besides, if you go out of business maybe all of my Gibsons will be collector's guitars and their value will skyrocket.)

I am still perplexed as to why they chose 70's van culture to model their new paint jobs on. I haven't seen a 70's van on the road for decades. It isn't like they are super popular now, and they saw a market and went for it. It would make more sense to go after exotic super car colors...Lambo Orange, Ferrari Red, DeLorean Stainless- even Trans Am Black & Gold.

My best guess is generally speaking, lots of people will spend $$$$$ to re-live their youth.

I’m amazed at how many people seem baffled by simple nostalgia. Something that’s always going on somewhere, with somebody, about something. It’s been going on since forever, and it will never stop as long as there are people who age over time.

I understand nostalgia, but it isn't like I see the actual 70s custom vans driving around. It seems they are searching for something to be nostalgic about. They should have picked something like early 80s video games.
