Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

I'll tip my hat to Evan and the other folks at SD for exercising discretion with this board. One need look no further than Xerxes' experience on the Carvin board for an example of a heavy handed manufacturer's board.

As for an association with the fenderforum, I don't see that making any more sense than with any brand-specific guitar board (i.e., not much).

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

I'm new as a member, but have lurked for a while. This forum is unique in its allowing the discussion of other brands of pups without condemnation. The maturity level here even in debates is very high. That is very hard to find on the internet.

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

I think the LPF has way more banned former members than they do active members and the FDP is probably not far behind!! :-)

I was banned from the LPF for similar reasons as Lew, just trying to help some folks get a better deal on parts. I e-mailed Lily several times asking what she felt I did wrong and if I could be re-instated. She never even bothered to reply!!

Nice thing is I still get a lot of business from that forum even though I was banned two years ago!! :laugh2:

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

So the maturity level on here is high? hmmmm......gotta work on getting back down towhere it should be:laugh2:

fwiw~it amazes me that the seymour duncan fourm allows, and you can discuss the merits of other p/u makers without retribution:amish:

I've dipped in and out of a variety of technical fora; Google groups, alt.guitar.uk, Project Guitar Forum...

PGF is good, but I've never been inclined to hang around the way i do this one. It has a good atmosphere and I put that down to the liberal administration and their attachment to free speech. It's almost like everyone here is friends and know each other IRL, even though we are actually thousands of miles apart. It has the same atmosphere as the Beaned and Toasted forum (currently offline) which is really just a small local hangout for Cardiff University Students and their associates.

Even though we may disagree on some things, it seems to me that there are rarely any stupid flamewars like the ones you find on the tech forums; KDE vs Gnome, Mac vs PC, Fender vs Gibson.

Long may we keep it that way.

This is the only place where i have seen someone delete their own thread or post because they felt it was wrong, or too extreme and it's the only place where i've seen people apologise to another member publicly for their attitude if they felt they were out of line.
All hail the SDUGF! :7: :yourock: :flowers1: :notworthy

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

The tone of this forum is set by Seymour himself and Evan Scopp and the Seymour Duncan Company in general. Very nice and genuine people...and that's why this forum feels the way it does. Good vibes.

Other forums are founded around less enlightened webmasters with less healthy egos...and that's why they feel the way they do.

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

Yea, this is the Guitar Slinger Forum of choice!

SD, Evans, Scott_F, Jeremy, etc do their honest best to work with all of us, while those other richard-heads restrict rights that were granted by our fore-fathers (After beating the British for our freedom, in 1776~1815) - That is Freedom of speech.

Although I own a number of guitars and amps, I only read and post on this forum - that is my personal expression of my freedom of speech and it is based on most of my fellow Seymour Duncan forum members; rather than some richard-head's restrictive control of a web forum.

Let's give our warmest praise and whole hearted thanks to Seymour Duncan and the administrators for helping us post our respective comments on this forum.

THANKS Seymour!

Sincerely,

Stratman

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

Come on over to the Reranch forum... We have a pickup thread going in which one of our resident know-it-all Trolls is explaining why GFS pickups are better than any of the "sloppy" hand wound pickups... of course he also contends that Seymour Duncan pups are a rip off, because GFS will sell him an identical pickup for a lot less money and it has to be better quality because it isn't made by lazy American workers...

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

Another vote for the Duncan forum...I rarely go back to the FDP as it all seems so old-fogey-ish..folks seem clueless about technology, and more religious about the Fender brand [like the LPF - a joke IMHO]. FDP amp threads are good though - some good guys in those subforums.

Anyway, with Duncans in 3 of my guitars, I guess you can call me a believer or whatever. Good product, and I agree a good bunch o' folks.

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

I am a member of a couple of knifemaker forums. One VERY famous knifemaker who was allegedly a friend of the webmaster was banned from the forum for being disruptive. I hadn't been on the forum for very long, but everything i ever read from the guy was either very helpful or extremely funny. Still haven't figured that one out, but after reading this, it seems like some forum webmasters are a bit on the tightassed side. Glad I found this forum first when I started trying to learn to play again. I am not sure that some of my silly off point commentary would go over very well on some of the more anal retentive forums :fingersx:

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

Aceman speaking in his "Business Consultant" disguise. If all those companies ever do is allow already loyal buyers to praise their product, they will never expand their market. I'm sure Seymour has lost a few pup sales to DiMarziofrom posts here. I also suspect sales of the JB could be even better -as if they are bad now! That said, I bet Dimarzio has lost more customers to Seymour. And we won't even try and figure out Gibson/Fender damage.

I've looked at the Gibson forum a bit...Mostly it's populated by people who are a bunch of LP freaks. Not that I'm not one, but tone is tone! I agree that this is the best forum out there and what Seymour loses in direct sales is more than made up for in terms of long term customers and converts from less forthright, honest and open companies.

These are the people I trust w/ my sound!

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

There's only one other forum that I regulary visit, and that is Aron's Stompbox forum. It supports my DIY hobby and is the reason I do DIY effects. :D Great people over there and great people here too. Seymour and company run a tight ship, but are "human" enough to let us music lovers and gear nuts have at it where he can watch (and probably get a good laugh from time to time).

Thanks, Seymour, Evan, and all the Admins. You guys are great. :fing2:

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

When I started playing, I only knew a few companies, and Seymour Duncan was one of them. So I came here, and I found it such a great place. Everyone's willing to help with most anything and give great advice. I don't have experience on any of the other forums mentioned, mainly because this is the best place for any and all information regarding guitars. So merging with any of the other "tyranical" forums wouldn't seem like such a great idea. If people there want to stay one-sided about everything, let them.

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

There seems to be a lot of folks on the Fender Form/Pup Tent, that do not have a clue about Duncan pups, and how good they are.

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

I didn't know there was any issue between SD and the FDP, mainly because I don't go over there any more. I used to spend a good deal of time there, but I agree with Dave Z's comment that there is a kind of religious zeal regarding Fender products that's a bit of a turn off. I also agree that there are posters on the amp modding threads, like Vintage Jon, who are really helpful. Others there seem a little thin skinned regarding the company line though.

IIRC, SDs pickups got mentioned along with others, but I think forums take on their own preferences due to the main posters' preferences.

One issue over there is the mere size ... ironically, the FDP is a little like FMIC - a sprawling, somewhat confusing entity. (Try doing a search there!)

This forum is much smaller, and more responsive, and friendlier.

Seymour and his company seem like what I imagine that Fender was like when Leo was there ... focused, but friendly and accessible.

I would also note that, despite what may go on over on the FDP, Fender is a client of Seymour Duncan's.

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

I've heard too many horror stories about that guy and his forum that I won't even bother to venture over there. Apparently he scammed some people out of their money, etc....I just don't deal with people like that.

This is the only manufacturer forum that I frequent because they don't run it like Nazis. And to be honest, that's part of what keeps me wanting to try SD products other than for the sound of course.

As much as I like Dimarzio, they are stupid and shooting themselves in the foot for not having an online forum exactly like this one where ANY pickup can be talked about and people can get the right pickup for them and their setup rather than just getting one brand rammed down their throat....that's important.

Re: Seymour Duncan/Fenderforum/Chriss Green

+ 1 on Aaron's stompbox forum, although it can be intimidating for a newbie

The Guitar ReRanch forum - in the "Refinishing and Restoration" zone - has been just as educational and almost as friendly as this forum for me. Nobody gets their shorts in a twist if we talk about TruOil finishing, polyurethane, etc. even though the forum host is selling nitro lacquer products. Just like someone said about S-D's business, in the long run I'm sure that open-minded attitude has helped build Bill's business.
