Re: "Seymour Duncan Special Van halen pickup 1979"

it baffles me when I find threads about EVHs pickups and some of the same people get into disputes over and over. whatever floats your boat lol.

Re: "Seymour Duncan Special Van halen pickup 1979"

What baffles me even more, is the folks who hate EVH discussions still find it necessary to enter the thread and espouse their indignation for it all.

It doesn't baffles me at all, there's a lot of pissed off people behind a computer, and they usually become very up front with a keyboard in their hands.

BTW I think I read somewhere that sh-5 was originally wound for EVH and the guy went and put an A2 in it to sound less harsh and that was the first custom custom ever, it's probably crap, but who knows.

BS alert! the sh5 was made for the guy in the cars(elliott easton) to put in a dean, vh had nothing to do with the custom sh5.
did eddie get a recomendation from seymour to try the sh5 with a A2 for a smoother, less abrasive tone for his floyd rose loaded guitars? probably:14:

I'm glad Eddie got over the issue with Seymour, or we might be actually playing guitar somewhere instead of talking about this stuff here.

:)

I never said he didnt use a JB what i said was i read he asked seymour for a pup that was like a PAF times two. hence the custom was born since that is exactly what a duncan custom sh5 is. if you want to believe it was made for VH then cool but thats not the case.it is not the secret VH pup but will do a amazing job at that tone if you have a plexi and other needed things.
I sure hope you have a plexi or similar or this pup s**t aint gonna help ya?

Re: "Seymour Duncan Special Van halen pickup 1979"

Ed H,I havent played marshalls in many years, since the mid 80s.Ive owned original marshall plexis, superleads, jcm 800,modded plexis and they never sounded the way I liked. Then I owned-tried all the boutique stuff thats out there from A-Z with no cigar also. Then in the early 90s I tried out the VHT amps and I liked what I heard.Since then thats all I play they achieve the tone we are talking about, they have the punch, aggressiveness, clarity(you hear every note),edge,in your face tone.I play the VHT/Fryette Deliverance heads(what a great sounding Marshall should sound like).Im just looking for the extra zig and i believe the right pickup will give me that.Ive also tried EQ pedals, overdrive pedals and they basicly destroy my sound. So The right pickup should work.Like I said many times I use my ears when it comes to what my sound needs.
