Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

So, been thinking about building a new pick guard for my ESP 400, this might be a great pickup for the bridge; have the 59/Custom in bridge and Classic Stack Plus in the neck, no middle pickup - then wire both to a push/pull to split for more vintage tones! Wondering if 250K controls would be OK with both of these or would 500K be a better choice?

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

+1 that would have been a classy move.

it would have been nice if SD wrote the fact this pickup born by a SD forum member, BachToRock (btw, thank you), and it was tested by a lot of other people orbiting here, including myself.
I don't see any reference about that, I hope it will be written in the more descriptive official page.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

the 59/jazz would make a great neck pickup indeed. this set should be marketed, with a myriad of magnets. a5, a3, a2, a4 and a8. same for the jazz/59. this set is just awesome. can't imagine a better pickupset for my needs.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

@chuck norris: this pickup goes greatly with high gain. it will be tight, open, direct and will not be mushy. but it will also have a little 'sag' due to the 59 coil, but not in a bad way. It can do really all styles without a hitch in my les pauls...

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Question for the chaps who've made their own: how does the regular A5 compare to an unoriented one in this pu?

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Which stock neck pickup(s) do you people recommend for this hybrid bridge humbucker?

If it sounds the way I imagine it does, I'd work up a new hybrid for the neck. Or do a C/59 A2.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

I wonder if there are any plans to release the 59/Jazz Hybrid...

That would be brilliant. In my view, a two-pickup guitar with one hybrid hasn't reached it's full potential, and the 59/Jazz neck would suit so many styles. I have 4 mahogany/humbucker guitars and they all use 59/Jazz neck pickups. Once you hear a good guitar with a 59/Jazz neck pickup, every other neck pickup sounds flat and one-dimensional.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

My guitar with the 59/Custom Hybrid has a 59/Jazz hybrid neck pickup. Its very cool, but a hybrid bridge pickup doesn't "need" a hybrid neck pickup. I think of each pickup as having a tone, and I just want to match up "tones" if that makes sense. So it paired wonderfully with a 59 neck in the NAMM demo guitar. (a beautiful Guilford) I literally only have the neck hybrid in mine because I had a used Jazz with a blown coil! But it does sound good too. :)

in mine the UOA5 was the best, the A2 was to spongy, the A5 too hollow, I used it in a strat, ash body with maple neck rosewood fingerboard

Cool. Now I really need this pickup! Thanks for the info, Orpheo.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

This is one of my favorite pickups, and I think it's my favorite Fender strat humbucker...particularly in alder/rosewood.

But, it's also in the family of 59, Brobucker, C5 etc, so it's a great all around pickup in any guitar. You've got what everyone wants, a 59 Plus essentially. Think of it as the 50 yard line between a 59 and Custom 5.

And with this being a big Van Halen comeback year, this pickup is great. It's got the vintage VH vibe in spades.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Here's the guitar I've got it in.....an American Std in rare black pearl dust. C5/59 and Hot Rail, with 3 way. This alder/rosewood strat sound great with this pickup.....and I've tried everything from JB, C5, Jazz B etc. C5/59 wins.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

great pickup! great news! I hope they make a 59/jazz neck pickup to go with it. I loved that combo in my sg! when is the release date? will it have all the options like TB versions, covers etc?

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Are you saying that it is somehow unfair to compare the cost of used pickups to new ones? What are the benefits of buying new pickups vs used ? A warranty? :scratchch

The difference is the vast majority can't do the work themselves. I wouldn't trust ebay and the work of some unknown party. There is no 21 day return policy. Why do people buy new customs or 59's? Not everyone wants cobbled together stuff.
