Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Apples to oranges friend. You can't have it both ways.

Are you saying that it is somehow unfair to compare the cost of used pickups to new ones? What are the benefits of buying new pickups vs used ? A warranty? :scratchch

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Hey guys.

Bachtorock and I had a great conversation on this subject. I think we're both feelin the love. Nothing more really needs to be said about that. As for the name, it is what it is. We spent some time talking about it and 59/Custom Hybrid is the final decision. Hopefully even if a noob looks at it they might even say "what's that mean" and they get drawn in to the process. Just like the first time all of you clicked on that now infamous thread to find out what the heck they were talking about!

It's also nice knowing some turd burglar halfway across the country isn't sending you the wrong model pickup, or one that he's messed up.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

J ghost... love it!
When I heard from Frank that they wished to market the pickup it was enthralling.
With such broadspread scamming in the marketplace it is difficult to navigate. There is a great sense of comfort purchasing a product fresh from the manufacturer from an authorized dealer.
I have fabricated these for over 20 years for close friends... and eventually fellow forum members, but even if it was from 2 new pickups... the end product was not "fresh from the factory".

The name is PERFECT... the thread on the Forum is... How to make a "59/Custom Hybrid"... how would any other name be appropriate?

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Hey BTR, I'd really like to know how the 59/Custom Hybrid behaves under high gain. Is it tight enough to play fast staccato riffs?

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

I'm really, really happy to see this. To be honest, I really didn't expect it. If SD were going to market a forum special, I would've assumed Custom 8, but this makes me a lot happier.

The hybrid I have in the bridge of my Supersonic is probably my favourite bridge humbucker. It has qualities to the sound that I've never heard from any other, '59 and Custom included. I think this will be a great addition to the line and I can definitely see myself picking up more of them.

As for the name, I like it. If you've done at least five minutes research into Duncan products then you'll know exactly what you're getting. If you're not willing to do five minutes research then...yeah, **** you. You're not going to know what you're getting no matter what you buy.

Thanks to the folks at SD for making this happen. :friday:

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Man...

I've been thinking about this pup ever and anon of late, having read 'that' thread loads of times and done my own experiments with OEM pups in the past, and liking the result.

So I've been contemplating making my own, thus prowling evil bay for used Customs and '59s without much luck and now here's the official version...

Temptation runs strong. Honestly, the stock bridge pu in my Proline is fine, but damn... Spending too much time on the intermess and falling into the contemporary Western cultural debasement of never feeling satisfied.

Who gives a crap what they call it.... what is it going to sound like!

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

I want one as soon as it's released , no logo and long legs please. :bigthumb:

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

This is very cool. Thanks to BTR for schooling many of us in the art of the hybrid, and props to Frank and SD for making it production.

Speaking of which..will this be a good candidate this a good candidate for an A8 swap?

A8 can be a bit OTT on the midrange in this pup, its not an automatic win like the C8. I like mine with any of the A5 variants as that seems to bring a nice balance to the Pups EQ.

There sure are some dumbasses on this forum.

Easy big fellah!

But in all seriousness, you and I have been here since the early, pre-YaBB days. I bet we could make a list...:lmao:

I am responsible for the naming tangent. I did not mean to take away from the fanfare. This is a great thing. I do think many SD pickup names are confusing, but I looked again at the entire product line. For whatever number of unfortunately named pickups there are, many are equally suitable.

I apologize if I riled anyone up or offended anyone's sensibilities -- and thanks to BtR for being the brainchild behind the the whole hybrid'ing trend.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

I'm super stoked on this. Might just have to rip out my PGb for one of these.

Re: Seymour launches the 59/Custom Hybrid!

Corporate strategy unfolds. Legal team approval. First the P-Rails incorporating 2 different pickups, different winds, different pole pieces. Next the 59/Custom Hybrid including different wire gauge and windings. No mention made of dual resonance or patents. DMZ who's your daddy. Great Stuff.

Of course with all the different magnets/"air" etc. it's really many different new pickups. Love it. Next the combination of 2 classics the JB/Custom. ;)

Which coil is the Custom and which the '59?

Inquiring minds would like to know.
