Seymours 59's on a Strat

Re: Seymours 59's on a Strat

Hello All
Has anybody put SD Vinatage 59's on a Strat, if so how did it sound?

Thanks
Allan

I had the 59b in my charvel(alder) that also has a OFR and it was real good but it lacked mids and maybe a touch of output. I now have the Pealry gates and it is taking up where that 59 left off, mids are now full and present and output if perfect! i recommend the PG for a strat:)

Re: Seymours 59's on a Strat

I sold a 1969 Strat to a friend and got to buy it back some twenty years later. It had been modified, and had a 59 neck pickup in the bridge (good idea i thought, to help it match with the single-coils). it sounded good and worked well, but i prefer to have Strats in their traditional from, so i restored the guitar and it reverted back to three single-coil pickups.

But the 59 neck in the bridge sounded good and would have allowed the guitar to cover more territory, although probably not metal styles. It was quite mellow and blended well with the single coils so that all the available sounds were 'cohesive' and it sounded like one guitar, no radical change when switching to the bridge-only position.

Hi Ed
Thanks for your input.

Allan

your welcome and just to be clear i was not saying the 59 WONT sound great in a strat but i was after a more midrangey tone with mega harmonics and the PG does just that in a strat to me the PG is a 59 sprinkled with magic dust:)

A '59 and an alder Strat are a match made in heaven. Alder seems to bring the mids out that the pickup usually lacks. Hard-mounted to the wood, it's even better. It matched nicely with the single-coils too. Personally I think Fender puts far too hot and mid-rangy a humbucker in their HSS models.

I had one in the neck of my Yamaha Pacifica, which is essentially a Strat, for all intents and purposes. I really liked. It was fat, warm and full, with a little bit of sparkle on the high end. Beautiful clean tones and a nice, warm lead tone. Didn't like it so much for distorted rhythm and chordal work; it seemed to get a little dark and muddy. Overall, it was a nice match.

In the neck....perfect! In the bridge....needs a little help. The Custom or C5 do much better.

Jimmy is switching his strats to Lollar Imperials...I last talked to him a few months ago and he's apparently fallen in love with the Lollars...He's always messing with his gear, but yeah, he's a great example of '59 in a strat tone...he wires independent volume controls for each pickup and sets the 3 way switch in the middle...backs off the volume of the neck a little...he plays in that position the majority of the time

ugh really? i knew he was using lollars in his tele and i love lollers p90s even if they arent traditional sounding but dont like his buckers all that much.
