Re: Seymour's Baked Potato Jam / pics*
I have to admit, I'm always skeptical about 'the newest greatest player' but am always intrigued enough to give them a chance to deliver the goods. I gotta say, within the first song of his set, he had a room of guitar players, including George Lynch, perking up to take notice. His style is very much in the same ballpark as Satriani, Hoey, Vai, but it's evident that he's got enough talent to carve a name for himself. Let's not forget about his tireless drumming badass, Charlie Waymire, who also played Seymour's entire set as a fill-in drummer. His drumming even garnered a comment from Seymour as he left the stage.....(Seymour) "You'll be at my studio in the morning, right?" What a great bassist, too! Philip Bynoe is a true bassist, in every sense of the word. A super nice and humble guy, but just threw the F down onstage! Great bass solo, too! Like I told him after the show..."utter sickness." He even had his beautiful and talented keyboardist adding her great texture and lines to Adrian's melodic sections.
As far as Adrian Ganysh, he is poised to become a name player very soon, so keep your eyes and ears peeled. I'm one of those guys who crosses his arms, wondering what to expect. Let me tell you, the guy's chops made me sit there and go "damn."
I watched the expression on Lynch's face a few songs into his set, and even Lynch was going "damn." Ha Ha. Overall, I really enjoyed his music, and was even compelled to chat with both his bassist and him after the show, even buying a CD off Adrian. I listened to it in my car, just to make sure I wasn't just high off the excitement of the night. No, he rips. His songs are well structured, and he has everything it takes to stand alongside players of the same style. Satriani comes to mind, not to cut Adrian short, but that's the style. He may have to overcome comparisons, and the more he strays from the comparison, the better, but all in all, he'll leave you satisfied, both on CD, and especially live. I recommend that you check him out at
www.adriangalysh.com and buy his CD. I don't regret buying mine.
