That's not an SG special that you have a picture of... it's a g-310. The SG special blows. I suggest going with the viper 100%

You want him to believe you when you say the gibson blows, yet you cannot even tell the picture is clearly a Gibson and not a G-310? It says Gibson right on the hedstock and is linked directly from the Gibson (not Epiphone) website.

Gibson SG Special (same pic he has above)

Im more of a fan of the LTD too, for the extra bottom end you get from it, its a generally fuller tone than the SG, but some guys prefer the brighter SG tone of course.

Re: SG special vs. ESP LTD viper 400

I'd hold off on buying either. Wait and get a better SG. The SG Specials, from what I've played, were terrible. I almost cut my hand on the fretwork and it felt very cheap. I haven't played the ESP, but I can't imagine it playing or feeling worse than the Gibson.

Gibson puts out good stuff, just don't look at the lower line for it. I'm sure if you played enough of the Specials at a store, you might eventually find one that's passable, but I did not have a good experience with them.

Re: SG special vs. ESP LTD viper 400

I would save for a Gibson SG Standard. I've seen a few on ebay within the 800-900 range. If used isn't your thing, or if you want an ESP, go for the Viper 1000. I haven't played this yet but if its anything like the EC-1000 then its worth the $800 and that's how much the SG Specials go for.
