SG Vibrola Questions

So I'm looking at assembling yet another Warmoth. This time an SG body style. Will most likely be ordering the neck soon, get the body after the holidays (damn present shopping taking my guitar money...). First, if the body is already routed for a tune-o-matic bridge would the stoptail holes show? Seems like they would around the narrower Vibrola plate.

Second, if you were going to assemble one of these what body color do you think would look best? I'm thinking about less traditional finishes here, so cherry is most likely out. Been thinking about black with gold hardware but I've never really been a gold hardware kind of guy. But it looks so damn sexy in the mock-ups!

Anyway and info or suggestions appreciated. And feel free to post some pics or Frank Montag mock-ups too!

The SG Vibrola is kinda cool, but I'm thinking that it wouldn't totally cover the stoptail rout.

Almost any color looks great on an SG. Certainly black and gold is very sexy. I love black SG's. Pelham is very popular nowadays.

Vibrolas do not cover the holes for the tail piece studs. You see this all the time on guitars that were retrofitted with a stop tail piece at some point, and then restored. But you can have Warmoth omit the holes for the studs when they make your body.

I'd say cherry, but you said that is out. Maybe a translucent green. Black or white don't do the SG body justice IMO. The points and/or contours get lost and.or overshadowed. I think they need a dark translucent finish to shine in my eyes.

IME, Vibrolas also do not stay in tune for ****. Still worth having strictly for looks, IMO. Nothing looks as good on an SG. They really do a lot for the guitar.

They are also quite pricey. I'd have a hard time convincing myself to install one for that reason alone.

I agree. I'd only install one if I wanted that classic look. But for pure function, no, no, no.
