it should have no detrimental effect on the sound
Most likely it was a mistake at the factory. Aside from cosmetics, it should have no detrimental effect on the sound, and sadly there's really no way to take it apart and correct it. I would imagine that they would replace it for you though, since it was obviously their mistake and really shouldn't have made it out the door.
I'd remove "Seymour Duncan" and rotate the pickup 180 degrees.
Well if they simply loaded the bobbin wrong but wound it the way it should have been then yeah, but aside from that, if they didnt, then it would be noticeable, wouldnt you think? Im bettingnit was made on the friday before thanksgiving, or Monday morning after the SuperBowl.I'm not so sure about that.

I got ya there, but with a blade pickup its the same either way. Its still the inner coil, its just out 180, but probably wound like it should have been.
Edit: actually all that was needed was half of a wind snipped off.
Edit again:
Let me rephrase that, its visually out 180, thats all.
There's guys on ebay who would list it double-price just because.
It definitely would not have anything to do with magnetic polarity. I would be very surprised to find out that the coils are anything but symmetrically wound since the pickup would likely have been in breach of DiMarzio's patent. Same number of turns, but different pattern, perhaps, but I doubt it. I would be skeptical about any claims of sonic differences due to rotation that weren't backed up with objective evidence derived from controlled testing.that is a good ideia, at least for a 'different' look, but dont know if the pickup would work the same way because of the polarity (i think i heard something about that or maybe i was just dreaming)

I think the pickup would look slick if the brand was removed and the pickup was rotated, but I doubt I would bother with it if it were mine.
