Shameless Self Promotion: Cleartone Guitar Strings vs. Untreated Under Water

By way of disclaimer, I'm the OEM sales guy for Cleartone strings. But regardless, you gotta admit, this is pretty cool.

As cool as that is and as good as they sound, I still kill em in a week. Believe me, I've tried just about every alternative to Elixirs but the plated plain strings keep me coming back.

You have no idea. I'm a walking rust factory.

Been sitting here watching Phil X's videos and I'm reminded why the dude's so awesome. Hell of a player and funny as hell, as well.

My buddy put cleartones on his '59 Std Les Paul. Actually , I did and didn't tell him. At first he wasnt sure about it, but now he's convinced. The tone is really great, and he doesnt have to change strings nearly as often.

For a while I only used coated strings, started on Elixirs, and graduated onto Cleartones. They just sounded better.

Then the EB Cobalts came out, and I'm digging them over the Cleartones.

Yikes, good thing I don't play guitar under water! Maybe send a set to Richie Kotzen.

I assume these are bronze acoustic strings?

Oh, and by the way, Evan: WHAT? You're moonlighting with Cleartone? Being a bigwig at Duncan somehow isn't enough for you??? ANSWER MEEEEE!!!!!

How long have you had the Cobalts on? I tried a set a while back and absolutely loved them out of the package. In about two weeks though, they were filthy. That never happens with any other string... I don't have acidic sweat and my strings are usually on for a month or more before changing.

I'd use coated strings but I've yet to find a set that didn't feel funky and most of 'em sound off too.

Now, my brother on the other hand he HAS to use coated strings and much like Formula he'll kill a set of strings in 3-5 days no matter what the brand...I hate it for him because it drives him nuts.

However I dunno if he's tried the Cleartones...

Re: Shameless Self Promotion: Cleartone Guitar Strings vs. Untreated Under Water

I love Cleartone strings! I tried to use Elixirs on and off again for years but always hated the way they sounded the first day you put them on. They degrade very slowly, but sound 3 days old the day you put them on. Cleartone's on the other hand gave me the bright, long lasting tone I wanted. I don't get them as often anymore because I don't live near a store that carries them but I do order a few sets when I order strings online.

I can see why this would appeal to OEM accounts. Personally, maybe this would be a good fit for my habit of leaving the same strings on for 4-6 years on some guitars.

Actually, I'm no longer an employee of Seymour Duncan. I started my own rep firm called Inside Track. I still sell Seymour Duncan and D-TAR to guitar builders, but as an independent sales rep rather than an employee. That allows me to rep other lines to luthiers and guitar factories. So far we have Cleartone strings, Q-Parts knobs, and we expect to have a high-end gig bag line very soon. Eventually, we'll have other guitar hardware and possibly even things like UV Curing booths and chemicals. Basically everything a guitar designer or factory needs. You can read more about Inside Track here.

But obviously, I'm still very much connected to SD. I still have my office there and I'm in the factory every day to go over sales orders and answer questions and whatnot. I still have my SD phone number, e-mail addy, I'm still a mod here, etc. I'm just no longer an employee of the company.

Re: Shameless Self Promotion: Cleartone Guitar Strings vs. Untreated Under Water

I know I'm bumping an 8 month old thread and all that, but... and I'm really sorry to poo on the parade, Evan... but Cleartones sucked. They pitted in one session, so there goes their so called coating. Also, they ate through everything I had to cut strings, which left me curious what they were doing to my frets, bridge edges, and the holes in my tuners. I thought they were awful strings. I thought similarly of the DR Dimebag strings that are supposedly coated, as they died in about two weeks and pitted despite being coated. 2c
