Shielding Tape better than Shedding Paint????

Hi all,

I was wondering if shielding tape might be the answer to my problem. I have a PRS SE CU 24 Floyd that I had upgrade to the Dimarzio Mo Jo and PAF Joe, both with Nickel cover. When I first got it back from my tech it buzzed in every position of the switch. I took it back and he did something with the grounding. He said that it quieted it a little but he thought that might just be the nature of the beast as he put it. He said everything has shielding paint where it should, so I am wondering if shielding Tape would help? Any guidance would be most appreciated. I may contact Dimarzio as well. Thank you as always.

When troubleshooting a ground issue like that it's better to find the root cause rather than fighting the symptoms.
Things I would check first: computer monitor nearby? It will create buzz. Try stepping away from the monitor and see if the buzz decreases.
Another thing to check is if the guitar bridge is grounded. Does the buzz go away when you rest your hand on the bridge?

If the shielding paint was applied too thin then there will be less noise reduction. If not, it works just the same as copper. I'd recommend checking the guitar for cold solder joints or issues with your pots or switches.

Yep near computer monitor and this does have an effect on it. But the noise doesn't go away when I tough the bridge. I can hear the difference when I engage the the push pull to split the pick ups. Although the to picks together split, still hum the same not like when the coils aren't split. Which is likely a separate issue i am guessing.

So you have a push pull split wiring, well when split you will get buzz but in full humbucker mode everything should be quiet. It's most likely a wiring issue then. See if you can find the schematic on the seymour Duncan or dimarzio website and compare it to how your guitar is wired. Check your guitar input jack wiring also.

When properly used, both should work equally well.

Are the bridge and shielding paint grounded to the electronics?

I have no clue to be honest. My tech said He did something additional to the grounding. Although I cannot remember exactly what he said he did to it.

A good paint is more expensive than shielding tape, but I preffer paint, is more easy to do a good job, almost for me...
