Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

StrangeSound

I played one some days ago and a friend played through it...I really loved it, sounded nice to me. It was far away from being cranked (around 1 actually) but still it was musical to my ears. More organic than the Screamer I have now.

If I had a pedalboard and some cash, I think it would be my next amp.

Am I alone here? :D

Re: Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

I have an HRD and it is fast becoming my "go-to" amp. I like the first overdrive quite a lot. I don't find the "more" overdrive as tasty. It seems to get quite brittle and sterile. It has excellent cleans and I use a "Damage Control"
'Liquid Blues overdrive' pedal to make it burn a little....works very well.

Kneel down.put on the blindfold...

Re: Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

Cool cleans on those amps, but IMHO, they had fugly overdrives.

I think fender would have done a better job by eliminating the 2 drive channels and knocking $100 off the bottom line.

I had one. Great cleans. The OD channel is noisy as heck.

+1. Or at least the 2nd drive channel. I'm currently looking for a Fender tube and I'm not sure what to get.

Yeah, the 1st OD channel is at least usable..the 2nd one is not. I usually go on the clean and use a pedal for OD. I do use the 1st OD some though. Instead of lowering the price, they could have added a 2nd speaker!

i have a hot rod deville and really like the 1st overdrive but not the 2nd.

Re: Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

They're pretty sweet amps. Take pedals nicely, which works well with a nice clean tube amp. Rock on!

Re: Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

People mistook the gain channel as a true gain channel. The amp works best if you keep the masters high, and gain low, so the gain channel acts as a boost. If you need real distortion, get a good linear clean boost to kick the OD channel up a few notches.

+1. The extras like the drive channels and the tremolo are pretty unnecessary. Same goes for the Peavey Classic and Delta Blues amps.

Now that's something I could get behind!

Bear with me though. Imagine an amp with the Super Reverb's reverb channel, 40 watts of power, master volume, and 2 10" speakers. THAT's the amp that should be added to the Hot Rod series, IMHO.

Re: Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

OK Strangesound... Where do you want the bullet to impact and what size and profile of bullet is your preference (ie hollowpoint or wadcutter)? I'll see if I have something in my arsenal to properly dispense the mineral injection therapy you have requested... ;)

Re: Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

I vote .45ACP in hollowpoint. Federal, if you please.

Re: Shoot me..I love the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe overdrive

I was thinking .308 hollowpoint, but .45 ACP would be lovely as well. Lots of copper and lead in either...
