I know for a fact 57 and on strat pickups were A5 with formvar wire. I believe they used A3 only for the 54 and maybe 55 strats. I would safely assume they're A5
Assuming the AV series lives up to its accuracy that it brags about.
Eric goes for those alnico 3 pickups. I guess they're great for that chimey cascading harmonic thing but generally, I like the throatier tone of alnico 5 - the pickups from 1962 being my favorites.
so young. So naive. It wouldnt even be close. maybe on a clip.If you think that '56 reish' guitar sounds anything even remotely close to how sweet and great a real genuine 1957 Strat sounds , then you are a fool.Wouldn't matter since the vintage purist will find something to b1tch and moan about on it anyway. I heard a difference between the two but in a live context it would probably be negligible. Can't really say which one I liked better.

You might like to believe maybe one day you can spend 5 thousand and get that tone, but , ha, youre dreamin' dude.
I had A3s on a Tele and they sounded great on that platform.
On a slightly related note, it seems like Fender's formula is Maple = V, Rosewood = C. I wish there were more C shaped Maple necks of "vintage construction!
I guess if I really want one there a number of options, just not from the Fender production line...
I think the Nocaster pickups in both of my Teles are A3 and I really like them! Very early series that measured almost 10k.
Never gelled with any a3 strat pups I have tried. But for Leos masterpiece, a3 all the way AFAIC. Plenty of bite and bark, nice complex mids and ballsy. Maybe with a rw board, I would like A5s more than I do, but I am an all maple neck guy when it comes to broadnotelecasters.
