Short Engl Screamer Clip

StrangeSound

Hi!

I got the amp yesterday in the morning but I recorded something today. It was just a test. I´m surprised that the amp sounds so much smoother on the recording then in real..ok the master volume was only on 1,5 but I like the tone in the clip..enjoy! I´ve put a "light" compressor in Adobe Audition and a small amount of reverb on the track afterwards.

Guitar used: Ibanez RG 2570 (Air Norton (n) / Breed (b))

Short Sample

I played straight into the amp..gotta get used to it hehe

Hehe sounded like it fits you like a nice glove:)
I almost bought one the other day, but I was unfortunate.
Sounds great, everything stock?
Niels
Thanks :D

Yeah everything stock right now but I´d like to know which tubes would sound even smoother..I`ve asked this in the amp section here...but no answer yet.

I´m a tube newbie but I know you can change a lot with the right tubes..I bet there´s room for improvement. Perhaps the speaker could be changed, too. What´s the character of a Celestion G12 Vintage 30 (which is build in)...I wish it could sound less bright overall.

I was on the Celestion site..I think a "Classic Lead" or "G12T-75" would be better for my style.

Nice tone and playing! Sounds good to me, not too bright IMO (and I hate screechy guitars).

Re: Short Engl Screamer Clip

sounds great man. I love the Screamer 50. It is my favorite 50 watt combo and a great bargain.

Re: Short Engl Screamer Clip

******n, that sounds amazing dude! What's the stock speaker on that thing, and what gat/pickups were you running through it?

Cheers! Thanks man :)

You can hear the mids of the Breed..plenty of it^^

Stock speaker yeah..it´s a Celestion G-12 Vintage 30...I`m kinda thinking to switch the speaker someday...for a Celestion "Classic Lead". Less highs and more for the Jazz/Fusion thing I´m trying to do.

Re: Short Engl Screamer Clip

Adrian,

Your clips sound great!!! The Engl is a great underrated amp - huge range of tones and loud as hell!!!! It does have a tendancy to be a touch bright with the V30, but eq'ing the treble and prescence properly tames the highs nicely.

As far as tubes go, JJ's sound real smooth in the pre section. Check out my review of different tubes in my Screamer.

Pick whatever you want, but STAY AWAY from G12T75 you've mentioned in previous post..

Re: Short Engl Screamer Clip

Nice tone and playing. I didn't think it was bright at all. Lots of mids...sounds Mesa Boogie-ish. Can you post some crunchier tones in the hot-rodded Marshall range?

Classic Lead has more highs;)
Get a G12H 30 and do not crank the amp then, but still plenty of volume to use.
Oh ok, thanks for the info!! :)

Thank you very, very much!!! That´s some info I´ll need for sure!! If I change the preamp tubes, there´s no need to bias it, right? Hm..never changed tubes..but I think I´ll keep these tubes for some time.

I´ll try the amp in a band situation..perhaps the drums and the bass balance the guitar tone a bit. :)

Can you enlarge on this please? With which amp did you test it? :)

Thanks!!! The crunch sound is great for rythm stuff..I´ll try to create some more clips..will put the 'puter down to the basement and crank the beast.

Wow, awesome tone and playing, Adrian! :)

I tried that amp in a music store and i didnt like it at all :(. I don't know why- it just sounded really really hollow and sharp to me. Very wierd indeed!

Thanks for the clip,

In reality it sounds kinda sharp..I´m so surprised that the amp sounds so mellow on the clips..I bet it sounds best with a band. Gonna try it soon. Treble is on 4 and the lead prescence is on 2 (in the clips)

Thanks Erlend!

I could use a condenser mic and record something..then I´ll capture the sound I´m getting here in the room quite good. I´ll test things like mad!

Edit: Poor playing..but this time less gain (sounds less harsh in reality then) and a condenser mic

i have one too and changed the tubes, all the way. after i fitted it with JJs (paired matched and all) it sounded smoother, more harmonic and,,,,yes that word,,,,,,,warmer. the guy who sells them is ok too, although he does a lot of copy-paste in his emails. when you ask a question which you know he hasnt prepared you get 2 sentence emails lol!

i must say my lead presence is almost off (just a notch) and my treble is about on half (or noon to sound like i am a pro). this bitch likes to squeel as you now know and is trebly so back those knobs down to find your sound. But one of the best combos for in your bedroom, at low volume it cant be beaten. it is way too loud too, i mean i never turned it up more than 2. the 3rd channel is just balls to the walls vintage rock with a smooth edge. the 4th channel is proper highgain, but i dont like the voicing, too modern and compressed so i stick a marshall distortion pedal into the 3rd channel for leads.

but i prefer el34s instead of the glassy 6L6s in it so i will sell it one day.
