Should I buy a greenback?

There is a brand new greenback on sale at the mo, and i hear alot of guys on the forum changing speakers for the celestions.
One thing is Im not sure if it will be a huge improvement in tone, especially with a 1x12 closed tube combo amp, the stock speaker in the amp is alright made by eminence or something, it does the job. but i was just wondering if i could expect it to sound alot better than it does now with a speaker change.

I guess we don't know enough about the amp and the sound your after.

Gb's are 25 watt speakers, so that's one consideration. If your looking for earlier breakup, and your 1x12 is less than 25 watts, then it might be a good thing.

GB's sound very different in closed back and open back cabs. They are looser open backed, but much tighter closed back.

Gb's have a lot of "bite" and "bark" to their attack. They are a bit more "aggressive" than many stock speakers.

If you like lots of midrange then the greenback might be a good speaker for you. I think they sound great for classic rock/hard rock. The mids are very full and warm. They can handle lots of bass and the highs are pretty smooth. I am pretty sure you would hear improvement, especially in a closed back cabinet.
They are good for clean tones also, but they would not be my first choice for jazz, country etc.

I alike the idea of Greenbacks, as they come as standard in the 30W Bluesbreaker Marshalls :smokin:
My #1 choice in Marshall amplification !!!

I LOVE GREENBACKS for their open tone, smooth feel and sound, and crunchy tone when kicked into gear.

NEGATIVES? Well, I like GBs for balanced sounding bands. Rock bands usually require volume and a present tone to slash thru the mix. GB's are 96-97 db, while other models are over 100 dB. Let's say, with other models you will feel the loudness and power a lot easier.
