I think most builders/makers/creators are happiest when their musical product is making music. I think Mr. Matthews himself would prefer you played it.
I have an 805 that was signed by Seymour Duncan. As soon as I wiped the dust off the surface, the signature started erasing. So I just used rubbing alcohol to erase it altogether.
I've owned a few autographed pieces over the years, Kerry King, George Lynch, Michael Angelo Batio, Dean Z, ..... I played the hell out of all of them.
And when I buy new J's, I crease them the first day.
