Should I worry about insects/spiders on my guitar?

Today when I went to grab my guitar out the case I saw a spider on the handle. So I shoved it away and I opened the case. I was shocked to find a bunch of they baby spiders on my case. I know spiders have sacs they leave where there can be hundreds of babies, so that pretty much sucks. I tried to wipe them off with a shirt but there were so many and they were all just a bit bigger than dust. I just hope they all die soon and don't turn into full size ones later. I'm pretty sure they don't cause much of problem, but the tiny spider kind of make s me not want to play that guitar for now.

Well, the spiders won't particularly do any harm to the instrument. How much harm they do to you depends on what kind they are and how afraid of them you are.


Personally, I'd kill 'em by any means necessary.

I hate spiders. Your story is enough to make me never play the guitar until its fumigated (sp?). I have a question though. Where do you store your guitar and for how long that spiders were able to nest in it? I don't think the spiders can hurt it but I would clean the guitar and the case as best you can.

Spiders in your guitar? That's your gimmick right there! Zakk Wylde has pinch harmonics, Eddie Van Halen has tapping, and you...you have real live spiders coming out of your guitar while you play! And if they lay egg sacks that's great because you can keep the gimmick going!

...you could also sell it on ebay with said gimmick...or phone into your local news: "Guitar Gives Birth to Bevy of Baby Spiders".

I have it in my basement, but thats probably how they got there. Usually I try to clear cobbwebs away to make sure spiders stay away. I think it just happened just yesterday, but spiders just creep me out. I think their the regular house spiders with the long legs and tiny body. At least my guitar isn't entirely covered by them, but just lightly like the way you fine dust on guitar after a few days laying out of a case.

If your guitar is collecting cobwebs and spiders, it's the first indication that you need to practice more! LOL

I play it most days. It's just one of those stupid female spiders laid a egg sac near my case. They just hatch so fast and just swarm everywhere.

best idea ever, i could totally see this working. that would be the coolest thing to see you solo around a spider or two on your fretboard. just throw up a sheet along a clothesline and set some lighting up to get that huge Silhouette thing going:laugh2:

heard the "spiderbite song" by the flaming lips? It will chill you to the bone, you could lose your hand, even perhaps break up your band!

Any one have any tips for killing the spiders that are getting in my guitar cases. They are the size of small specs so they are hard to kill. Everytime I wipe them off the next time I open my case they cover it again. I read online that spiders don't like lemon so I tried spraying some lemon oil on and inside my case.

good time to clean youre fretboard, use some lemon oil!!!! i dont think that should go on the rest of youre guitar, well actually i dont know, does it hurt the finish? if not put it everywhere

Oh lord..

I just got itchy when you mentioned that.. and I shivered with the picture..

I have insane arachnophobia.. I would burn the guitar, even if it were a 1959 Les Paul.

I once filled a sock full of coins to kill a spider on the other side of my room.. I couldnt get anywhere near it...

youd burn a '59 les paul? i cant talk to you anymore... not that i ever did haha. jk jk.

i dont like spiders either, but just feeling them crush under my hands is satisfying, kinda disgusting and sad, but satisfying.

you should get one of those air blower things you use to get dust out of stuff, and just go around every spider to get them off, than move youre guitar to somewhere less spidery, like youre room.

Nasty story! I hate spiders too, the other day I had a big black spider in my room so I grabbed the first thing I could lay my hands on and tried to smash it. I thought I had it but it ran off into a corner leaving 2 (still moving) legs behind on the wall. Talk about gross! I searched for it with a flashlight but it was gone, damn creature.
Never seen the spider since, I hope it will stay away.

Why don't you buy one of those air spray cans and clean your guitar and case with it.
I'd spray my entire basement with toxic! No creepers around my stuff!
