Read carefully:

Not asking if it is - but do you think it should be?

Should the #1 position of a 5-way switch be the neck or bridge pickup?

Edit 1: It's still early in the vote, but I'm really surprised that the vote is running neck & neck.
(Or is that neck & bridge?) :laugh2:
Anyway, I would've thought it to be more decisive.

Edit 2: I believe that a couple folks may have misunderstood the question, so, for the sake of clarity: Its a given, that with the guitar sitting on a stand, with the neck pointing up, that if the switch is "up", its the neck pup selected, and with the switch "down", its the bridge pup.

The question is, should the "up or "down" switch position be called #1? ;)

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

neck. The logic behind this (for me) is that I read left to right, and when playing right-handed, the neck pickup is the closest to the left. BTW, I'm left handed and play right handed.

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

Yeah that makes sense to me aswel it should go neck - bridge switching left to right or up to down.

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

Wow i don't get whats the point of this poll.

#1 position has been NECK on ANY guitar!

If you want that reversed just rewire your switch.

I suppose I should have clarified that. Quite a few folks are asking me to draw them wiring diagrams. (Which I enjoy doing.) But they usually say things like, I want the #1 position to be this, and the #2 position to be that. But it doesn't seem to be standardized - as can be seen by the results of the poll so far.

I've already caused someone aggravation because my drawing was backwards from what they wanted. When you get into complex issues like coil-splits, its not always easy to just reverse a switch.

So thats what got me to thinking about whether or not most of us were on the same page with respect to switch position numbering.

Clearly we aren't. ;)

Ever played an EVH wolfgang?

It has a reversed LP style selector.

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

Surely then if you cant rewir the switch in reverse you could always turn the switch around.

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

So, when you decide which direction (up or down) is #1, then I'll vote.:burnout:

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

My first reaction was neck, but thinking about it more im not sure if should be bridge?....

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

How many people think Artie should be banned for even starting this poll ... :saeek:
Forum bandwidth, just wasted ...:laugh2: :laugh2:
Okay, okay, my vote was for the I couldn't care less ... :laugh2: :laugh2: :)

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

Actually, I may delete this soon. The objective has been served. ;)

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

I'd presume the Bridge...if they're actually stupid enough to call it #1... ;)

Look at the trouble they put us through! Anyway, it's usually the setting most used when talking about pups and combinations of pups so I'd assume it's bridge.

Good luck! Hammer those guys who tell you these kind of things!!

Re: Should position #1 = neck or bridge

But then again, I can understand how you go left to right (1,2,3,4,5), and for the vertical toggle switches, top to bottom. Err!!
