"Show Some Ibanez Love" Thread

Re: "Show Some Ibanez Love" Thread

I had 3 Ibanez before, 1 with some bad neck pocket and the neck was seated really bad, and 2 with a lot of sharp fret ends. With a trade I got a RGA32.
You can pick them up for under 200€ used here and this one certainly wipes the floor with guitars that are up to 5 times as expensive. The pickups aren't the greatest, but its an extremely solid base. very stable 3 piece wizard neck, beautiful looks and incredibly playable and resonant. not very heavy too, so long rehearsals and gigs are easily doable.

When I got it with the trade, I just wanted to sell it to get something else, but I will keep this! I love it! looks killer, very clean and modern.

thinking about converting it to passives, but thats like basically spending the money the guitar is worth on new parts, what do you think? should I do it?

Floyd Licensed; not too much familiarity with them but you can always upgrade to an OFR. BTW: those RS1000s are gorgeous!!! How do you like the Pro-Rocker?

Thank you, I know I keep harping on it but they play even nicer than they look...sorry, I can't help but gush. The Rocker is ok, it doesn't do the flutter thing like a Floyd or other floating bridges...obviously...but it stays in tune pretty well even though I keep the locks off for the most part.

Now if I can get the RG to play as nice. It's the damnedest thing with it, power chords are nice and fat sounding but when I hit the boost and go into a solo it's all shrieking highs. I roll off the tone which helps but there's still a hardness to it. I use a Boss GE-7 for clean boost and it still gets shrill even with a flat EQ band setting. If I keep it I'll try a pickup swap, I have a Dimarzio Air Norton I want to try in the bridge. If I feel like getting crazy I may even try a magnet swap in the stock pick up which are Quantum Ceramics.

Re: "Show Some Ibanez Love" Thread

What pickups are in the RG and does it have stock pots? They're definitely a pretty lot.

They're calling them Quantum but don't specify a brand...Ibanez possibly? DiMarzio possibly? Oh, and yes it has stock pots 500K I believe I saw on them.

@ Obsessive Compulsive, I was at my buddy Dave's yesterday (for the first time in a while), and he actually traded his Candy Apple one for a Lazer Blue one like yours. I guess that info is neither here nor there, but it was pretty cool to be able to hold it and check it out. He said the same thing you did though regarding the pickups and wanting to keep it stock because its pretty well rocks as is.

My 1985 Phil Collen Destroyer....
Recently had the original POS pot metal, saddles popping off, flying and hitting you in the face Pro Rock-R tremolo replaced with a Floyd Rose with big brass block... just so you know, the Floyd Rose is not a direct drop in replacement... the Pro Rock-R is a wider unit... therefore the old post holes needed to be plugged and holes re-drilled... nope, the 32 year old wood was crumbling, so a 4 inch Ebony block was installed, then drilled for the new post...if you look closely in the last picture you can see the Ebony block. Plays like a dream, sounds like a dream... those are a Fishman Fluence Modern pickup set... the neck pickup is a dummy... does not work... just there for aesthetic purposes.

Whoa!!! Nice! This exact model was just mentioned in another thread. Cool to see one, cause they are so uncommon. Thanks for sharing this!

Edit
I just noticed the Fishman's, how do they sound, and are you planning to swap one in the neck position as well?

I recently put a Fishman Fluence in my Schecter (just the bridge), as far as aesthetics go, I like giant holes where things used to be rather than putting in things for show. I'm no great guitarist, but if it's good enough for Malcolm Young, it's good enough for me.

Well, for this particular guitar, I wanted it to be original looking... others, not so much...

No... I had a super elaborate setup with 3 Diamzios, a Mark Morton Dominion in the bridge, and a set of D-activators in the middle and neck. Had a push/pull tone knob.. when it was down, only the bridge, bridge/neck or neck worked. With the knob pulled, it was bridge/middle, middle, or middle/neck... of course with the 3 way toggle... And a really competent guitarist probably could have made heads or tails with it...
But I'm a simple guy. It's now, Vol, Vol, Tone. And the 3 way acts like a Les Paul setup.

That's completely awesome love it and impressive resto-mod upgrade with the Floyd! WOW!!! Robins badass too; use to have one briefly H/H in a Blue Sparkle with Maple Board one.

I had one of those, mine played horribly. I don't remember mine having a vibrato though.

Stock Ibby; pickup and pot upgrade (personally I prefer a DiMarzio 500k Push:Pull with Fender TBX Tone) would do wonders if you like the guitar overall and you can find some great used prices in the Trading section or on eBay/Reverb.

This is my only "Vintage" guitar. It's a 1978 Studio ST200. Active electronics, 24 frets, brass nut, one piece body. Weights a million pounds.
