Silicone tube dampers

Silicone tube dampers

Someone has a Friedman Modded Marshall.
Jealous...
But I’ve never used the dampers. I’m assuming they would help with tube rattle?
I would think they might be more important in a combo amp where tune noise might be more prevalent.

Re: Silicone tube dampers

I use them on the preamp tubes. I’d always heard that power tubes ran too hot for them, and I used to hear stories of them melting when used on power tubes. (Maybe they weren’t made from high-temperature silicone.)

Re: Silicone tube dampers

I've used them several times on both preamp and power tubes. Always in combos....never had tube rattle with heads. They worked well for me. Never had a problem with melting.

Re: Silicone tube dampers

When I had the vox night train they helped me tame some microphonics from el84s
But really haven't had a microphonics problem in years that replacing a tube didn't fix.

Re: Silicone tube dampers

I have really expensive RCA 7591A in one amp. They are rattling. The only way to use them are theses dampers. They are money savers (i never use this amp live, so i don't know whether they would work in high volume situations too.)

Re: Silicone tube dampers

No, but those dampers get rid of that spring clang sound when you move them -while off of course.
Oh, I thought that you were talking about a sound like what you would get if you smacked the reverb box on a cheap ss amp while it was on.
Now I understand differently.

haha. I'm very sentimental about the sound of the springs banging into the tubes -it's pleasant and reminds me of when I got my first tube amp as a kid.

Re: Silicone tube dampers

They enhance the 2nd and 3rd-order harmonics.

(no, not really) :13:
