Simple or tough to add neck selector switch to a double neck?

Hello everyone. I just recently picked up a Jay Turser double neck (which is being returned to the factory for a new one) and here's the thing with this guitar; it has two switches on it like a Gibson, but on the Gibson, the one in the middle lower end of the guitar is the neck selector and the one on the bottom is the pickup selector, which is for both necks. On Epiphones and Ibanez etc there are THREE switches, two for pickups and one for neck selection.

These wacky Tursers have the two switches, but both are pickup selectors while both necks are on all the time. How difficult would it be to add another selector switch and wire it up like the Epis or Ibanez double necks so that I can switch between necks?

its really only complex (i think) because it ends up being a TON of wires.

i have an agile, i think the wires go from the pickups to the pickup selector, to the volume/tone then back to the neck selector, then to the jack?

i can look if you need it

Anything would help, thank you!

Anybody else good with wiring? Need to know what kind of switch as well.

thats exactly how you'd do it, the volume/tone output from both sets of pickups goes to the new switch, which could be any 3 way switch. the only other way you could have a double neck is if you have two output jacks on a guitar...and if thats the case, just put the wires for both of those output jacks on a switch, and there ya go!

Great! Thanks so much guys. Now I hope I don't fry anything trying to do this, ha ha. Funny thing is that when I swapped out the pickups on my 1977 Gibson doubleneck, I was going to take pics of all the wiring because there was just so much of it, then thought "what for". Now I know what for.

Essentially you just wire up both halves normally and share the ground. Then you wire what would be the output "to jack" of each half up to a 3 way switch as if the halves were a vintage style pickup, and then you´re done :)

Where it really gets interesting is with any more thn 3 necks, then you have to start getting freaky with multiple switch combos, rotary switches, or other funky ideas.

That's awesome man, thanks. I had brought it to the local tech and he said it was going to be really expensive and it would take rewiring the whole guitar. I didn't think it would be incredibly complicated because the whole guitar is wired up already. So essentially, all I have to do is get the switch, take the wires that are run to the jack, split them to each side of the switch; viola, done.

Thanks again Zerbman. And thank you for making it simple for a lainbrain like me, ha ha. :friday:
