since Xeromus killed the other thread...

... I will burden you all with my question. :D

My question was regarding the radius (unshimmed) of the OFR unit that Warmoth sells. I recall reading that the Schaller unit was 14" "out of the box."

What would the OFR's radius be?

Re: since Xeromus killed the other thread...

schaller is 14" your right. an OFR is 10" stock. but they sell shims to make it any radius you need and they are simple 1-2-3 to install before setting up the guitar with strings.

shims...

Re: since Xeromus killed the other thread...

Sorry, if I knew more people could gain info from that thread I wouldn't have deleted it. But in summary: OFR out of the box: 10", Schaller: 14". But mike already got to that AND the fact that shims are available. So fretboard radius is a non-issue. You can match the bridge radius no problem.

Re: since Xeromus killed the other thread...

I'll be honest... there's some minor problems with the bridge on my Music Man; not enough to hamper playability but its enough to be annoying and hamper sustain a bit. Buying replacement parts for it is turning out to be an absolute bitch, too. I'm hoping the Warmoth-sold OFR is directly interchangeable with it. So far, the radius matches!

So anyone know if MM double-locking trems are swappable with OFRs? It's the same trem used on the Axis, but its on a '95 silhouette and it came stock. Here's the guitar...

Re: since Xeromus killed the other thread...

I was under the impression that OFR's were available in either 10 or 14. I might be wrong though.

The ones from Warmoth are 10".

If you don't buy mine, I might know what to do with it. ;)

They are, the saddles are interchangeable with the Schallers (i.e. Same saddle/ different radius) ;)

B2D, The MM Gotoh floyd is a high-quality unit and I wouldn´t usually recommend replacing it, but an OFR should be a drop in or at the most "minor mod" ;)

Re: since Xeromus killed the other thread...

I bought an OFR from Warmoth, and as i was installing it, i noticed that there were shims under the 2 inner most saddles, right out of the box, giving it a radius of 10". I simply removed the shims, and it turns into 14" or 15" I think. either way, shims should come with the floyd.

Re: since Xeromus killed the other thread...

Aw maaaaan....

The OFR is NOT swappable with the MM trem. A 1 mm difference on the polepeice width and a 5 mm difference in the length of the trem block means NO.

Looks like i have to wait on GC and MM's ordering departments. :(
