Slash set in Flying V- would it work?

Any opinions welcomed-

I've currently got a sh-5 custom in the bridge and 59n in the neck.

That set works ok. I mainly got the custom to handle forays into heavy metal/ thrash but these are increasingly rare and I mainly play classic - hard rock and blues now. My favourite tones are Slash, Joe Bonamassa and Angus Young (I know they're not V players btw).

Is there any reason why a slash set (alnico 2 mags) wouldn't work in my all mahogany gibson Flying V? It's a light guitar with a tendency to get a little muddy under high gain- but that might be the pickups I've had in it. So far, in the bridge: 500t (too harsh and powerful), 59b (too mid scooped and lacking mojo), Sh-5 custom (best so far but the ceramic is a bit brittle and gets a bit harsh with higher gain, also a bit too powerful at times).

I liked the spongy response and EQ of a pearly gates I had in the bridge of a strat previously but I think it's got too much of a unique "Texas sizzle" that I don't want in my V. The Slash set might be the ticket as long as the relatively hollow body and lack of a maple top doesn't cause muddyness.

Cheers

Sure they can work... no reason why not, pickups arent limited to body shapes and sizes.

Pretty much any pickup will work in any guitar , regardless of anything anyone want's to say about it.If you will like it or not is only up to you and your ears. A2 would be a great way to go with that V nothing wrong with the Slash set. What are you saying about it being a hollowbody , that makes no sense?

I put a set in a BC Rich Mockingbird, works well to my ears :)

They're basically Alnico 2 Pro's, not 100% sure, but I think he has them and standard Alnico 2's in all his humbucker guitars.!

How about a Custom Custom in the bridge? Just put an A2 magnet in the Custom you have in there now. Then put an A4 in the 59n.

Easiest thing to say is, if Slash used a Flying V, he would put them in there, and it would sound awesome.

I've never tried them in a Vee, but I absolutely LOVE Seths (and Ants) in an Explorer.

I have them on my Gibson Flying V!
Want to hear a clip?

PS. Just noticed you also have the same combination I have in one of my main guitars. SH-5 + 59n'

All I can say to you is, the SH-5 will someone ''better'' with a band, fuller, and all that.
But the Slash set really makes you standout as a guitar player. Your sound will really get noticed, but the bass ain't so strong as your other combination. So a tight band, and bass player is recommended. But hey! Everything's possible! That's just my opinion. Personally I love both sets. Get them now for every need!

Black Winters are next on my list!

As long as the pickups are wired in correctly, yes they will work.

Any other definition of 'work' is pure personal preference, and any opinion is irrelevant to you.
