Any opinions welcomed-
I've currently got a sh-5 custom in the bridge and 59n in the neck.
That set works ok. I mainly got the custom to handle forays into heavy metal/ thrash but these are increasingly rare and I mainly play classic - hard rock and blues now. My favourite tones are Slash, Joe Bonamassa and Angus Young (I know they're not V players btw).
Is there any reason why a slash set (alnico 2 mags) wouldn't work in my all mahogany gibson Flying V? It's a light guitar with a tendency to get a little muddy under high gain- but that might be the pickups I've had in it. So far, in the bridge: 500t (too harsh and powerful), 59b (too mid scooped and lacking mojo), Sh-5 custom (best so far but the ceramic is a bit brittle and gets a bit harsh with higher gain, also a bit too powerful at times).
I liked the spongy response and EQ of a pearly gates I had in the bridge of a strat previously but I think it's got too much of a unique "Texas sizzle" that I don't want in my V. The Slash set might be the ticket as long as the relatively hollow body and lack of a maple top doesn't cause muddyness.
Cheers
