SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Snapped the headstock on my main LP, never trust a stand at a rehearsal studio gang. Use at your own risk.....

I am pretty crushed, it's pretty bad but a lot of surface area to repair it.

Crap

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

sucks to hear. After all the horror stories i have heard about broken or cracked gibson headstocks, I always just keep mine in the cases anymore. not worth the risk. My cheaper strat style shredsticks, MIM fenders/charvels and MIJ les pauls are all that sit out anymore.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

The only plus side to this if any is that it'll be stronger than it was before... 84-to early 86 Kramers with the luthier joint are also known for this... Sometimes they break just looking at them cross eyed.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Oh I know it’s repairable it just sucks

I can’t stop thinking about it :headache:

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

That sucks -I broke a 6 month old Custom Shop 335 in the case about 20 years ago. Called Gibson, and they claimed the serial number wasn't real and refused to help. So maybe a year later I had a gig in Nashville and took they guitar and marched it into the HQ and put it on the desk and asked them to tell me it wasn't a Gibson.

To their credit, they shipped it to Memphis to their semi hollow shop and rebuilt it completely for free and shipped it to me.

However, I've never owned a Gibson since (and I've bought 25 guitars since then), because I figured they had grown too large as a company to care about players.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Yup my ‘05
I’ll be buried with it so it’s not the end of the world but it hurts.

I’ll go with Michael Schenker’s attitude about it, they all sound better once you snap the neck and fix ‘em

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Don't worry about it. We see breaking a headstock as a broken guitar, but to a Les Paul, breaking its headstock is the equivalent of losing its virginity.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Seriously man - I feel ya. Main guitar is main guitar for a reason.

But...it will be repaired, and be as good as she ever was. And then, some period of time after that, you'll be back to normal about it. And then, it will just be another battle scar on the road to rock & roll.

Be sure to make up an epic story.

Re: SNAP! ARGHHHhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Yeah I have some epic tales of destruction but this was so mundane...maybe that is it?

This guitar has killed from day one and to take the hit going facedown off a stand at practice....it's like Tyson getting knocked out walking into the refrigerator for a snack lol

Don't be so hard on yourself -this is like the most famous and common thing for Gibson style necks -the taper and angle create that nefarious place of susceptibility. Everyone suffers this eventually.

Ironically, Leo Fender trying to make a guitar as cheap as possibly avoided this issue all together with a straight one piece neck.

How old is the guitar? It can be completely repaired either by a professional or yourself -and the joint is actually stronger that originally.
